So, what I'm getting out of this thread is that most Devastator load outs are viable depending on their target? That's pretty cool. Usually with Devs you had to pick one load out or just leave them at home.

Skimmers. Usually 4+ save, usually toughness 5-7. That is the Grav Cannons big weakness compared to the missile launchers. I suspect skimmers will be very common.

I was thinking of putting some devs in a pod. I'm pretty sure multi-meltas on 2 for AT but I'm not sure for the other 2. Any suggestions?
I'm torn between another 2 MM's to smoke AT but I'm tempted with grav for the other 2. What do you think?

I think 4 Grav long fangs (187 points) in a pod (105) with a Wolf Guard Battle Leader (60 points, or a little more if want weapons and whatnot) costs lot (352 points) but might be the best way to do the drop podding devastators thing. Long fangs can reroll 1s to hit VS one unit they pick each turn, and the WGBL lets them re-roll 1s to wound too. this unit should be able to drop 24" away from something and pretty much wipe it out. You could also mix MMs or something in there, but im not sure it is quite as good as all Grav (and basically the same price).
(I realize these are not technically " SM" units, but with the way the rules are you could just throw these units into any army and since they are unlikely to be that close to the rest of the army you wont be losing much as far as auras are concerned.)

Honestly I am thinking of hybrid units where two have heavy bolters and two have a special weapon. With the cost of heavy weapons now it makes more sense to have ablative cheaper wounds within a squad. So something like tow heavy, two las would work.
I can see Grav having a place in tactical squads now with the combi grav being an option. Nice mid range fire support.

Im probably going to be doing 2 LAS 2 ML devs but i cant figure out how i want to fit out the sergeant.
since this set up is a long distance one i dont really want to invest in say a combi.
im thinking i might just keep him stock with the bolter

Long Fangs don't have Grav available.

Is it time for unpopular opinion bear? I actually like plasma cannons, if you put your company master near them, you can super charge them without much worry. They have good AP, a respectable number of shots, and with super charge can put out as much damage per model as a lascannon. Of course I do play dark angels so I might be a touch biased.
Aside from that I'm on team lascannon, I have tac marines, bikes, terminators and lots of other stuff to deal with hordes, what I need from my devastators is to put vehicles in the dirt,

Depends on chapter tactics.
preds dont gain anything cool like ignore cover, or -1 to hit.
but running 3 preds gives you a really nice strat assuming they all live and are next to each other.

Toss up between using the Pred in my UM or DA lists, but have enough lascannons to make dev squads in either as well. For survivability, I was thinking the Pred was more effective, but it's also a giant target on turn 1 too.

Lascannon all day for me, although that might change with Chapter Approved potentially smacking a lot of our Assault Cannon platforms.
I actually don't find the idea of trading a point of S and AP for the Anti-Infantry option of a Missile Launcher, but Frag Missiles are just sooo bad. 25 points for a weapon that shoots 3.5 Bolter shots? No way. Lascannons even kill more Space Marines than frag missiles do, you've got to get down to Guardsmen level chaff units and even then the LC doesn't lose by that much.
I also like Grav and H. Bolters for what it's worth.

Not sure if this has been said already, but wouldn't bother with a combi on the sgt as 90% of the time he'll forgo shooting to boost one of those pricey heavy weapons to a 2+ to hit with his signum. 66.666% accuracy up to 83.333% is a jump that a few long range single plasma shots simply aren't worth

Well its potentially worth it with a combi flamer as an option for overwatch.
but only if you have absolutely no way of spending the points
or you end up in some strangely melee heavy meta.
