What if the Lion is a prisoner on the Rock, and Cypher is trying to rescue him! Cypher could regenerate the Lion, they could then join with the Ultra marines and the Space Wolves to purge the true Fallen! That would be an epic campaign.

Everybody thinks the Lion is dead. The last Cypher saw him he was bleeding out like a stuck pig.

Every chapter has a flaw, the blood Angels is the red thirst (not black rage, that came later), iron hands in an obsession with body modification, the dark angels one is paranoia and secrecy, all of these flaws are exacerbated by the current practices and rituals of creating a space marine, you see the first inkling of this in the heresy books from both the dark angels and the lion.

My theory is that the angels suffered a similar psychic imprint to the blood angels, but nowhere near as brutal, I think this was caused by the lions upbringing, almost like his psychic scaring affected his legions gene seed on some level, you can see this with other primarchs and legions/chapters, as even prior to the primarch being found or even raised, the legions leaned a certain way.

Keep in mind, it's not just the betrayal, the Fallen's perspective on the war on Caliban highly suggests that it was the Lion who had fallen to Chaos. Additionally, the prisoners the Dark Angels have would hold significant interest for the Inquisition, who in their (somewhat understandable) paranoia would most likely view the entire chapter as tainted and thus, destroy them.

Even if this didn't happen, other Imperial armed forces may, upon learning of the unresolved nature of the treachery, may refuse to assist the Dark Angels in campaigns.

It also implicates any successors of the Dark Angels, whom are known to have secretive ties back to their parent chapter.

Essentially, the backlash and consequences would be catastrophic for the Imperium, but even moreso for the Dark Angels.

In the 41st Millennium, shooting first and asking questions later is par the course.

The Dark Angels have a Space Wolf level of Plot shields so they would be fine.

In reality the Imperium are not going to out a first Founding Chapter and its successors as possible traitors and simply eliminating them and saying "Chaos did it" or "they are still out there somewhere" is just too hard.

On the other hand its the Dark Angels who go round killing other Imperial forces to safeguard their secret - if other powerful Chapters such as the Black Templars found out they had done so to them - there would be at best bad blood and at worst some kind of reckoning.

Every chapter has a flaw, the blood Angels is the red thirst
