Keep your gin or vodka in the freezer for maximum refreshment in cocktails.
Not a long drink, really, but I do like a nice Stinger: brandy and clear creme de menthe. If the bartender has no clear creme de menthe, it can be made with the standard stuff and it's called a Green Hornet.
Another nice long drink is Admiral's Flip -- 50% brandy, 50% champagne.

I'm with Azreal, you can't go wrong with a Sea Breeze.
However one time I found myself short on ingredients but found that some grapefruit soda and vodka go excellently together as well.

On a truly scorching day?
A good quality cider can hit the spot. Or a Perry if you can find it (not to be confused with Pear Cider, which is Pear flavoured)

Well so, right now I am tasting a glass of Jim Beam White Label mixed 1:2 with Fevertree Ginger Ale.
It's an experiment and actually it's not half bad! Though I have to admit I previously drank two G&Ts, which may have affected my perceptions.

I had a thing a couple weekends ago that sounds somewhat similar to this. It was a Moscow Mule, except it had Jameson instead of vodka. It's one of those things that I wouldn't want to drink all day long, but I found the first one quite refreshing, and the second was still enjoyable.

Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale have some arcane differences that I don't understand. As far as I can tell, Ginger Beer is "hotter" and sweeter and is recommended as a mixer for Rum. Ginger Ale is recommended as a mixer for whisky. But this depends on the brand of each. At any rate, experimenting with them is fun!
