DKoK are my favourite infantry sculpts in the game.
Elysians look a bit dorky, in a likeable kind of way.

But Elysians seem to be really competitive.
Whilst DKoK are solid but not bleeding edge.

For me, the ruleset will come and go, but I'll still have the best looking troops in the game on my team. Krieg.

I know someone who used to work at GWs factory a while back - apparently the slightly dorky poses of the elysians are a result of the sculpts being based on some photos of the forge world staff jumping out the back of a delivery truck and doing "action poses".

Death Korps do just look better to me, although I do love the idea of the D99.

Whichever you like best. With Death Koros in particular, ignore any idea that you need to field a "Death Korda army"; you can use them as siege infantry with towed field guns, but if you just want to use the Miniatures as an ordinary Astra Militarum force, that's perfectly reasonable.

As for mixed forces, the battle for the water plant in IA3 featured Elysians, Cadians and Tallarns, so I don't see how having a army with an Elysian detachment and a Cadian one is "unfluffy". The Elysians arrive to Assault the position while armoured units provide supporting firepower.

So I've done a lot of thinking and ogling over models on the forgeworld website, weighing up costs and aesthetics etc, and thinking about how much I would enjoy playing the armies/how much diversity there is in tactics and I have come to a decision.

*drum roll*

I have chosen the Death Korps of Krieg. I came to this decision based on the models' looks and the variety of poses etc in the kits (the Elysians just seem to be the same 5 or so poses on repeat). As much as I would enjoy dropping dozens of plasma guns in my opponent's face and blasting everything away, I think I'd get bored of it after a few games. With the DKoK, I can run so many more builds and have a much greater variety of tactics to try from artillery gun line, Death rider charges, mechanised infantry and tanks or pure infantry. I think I'll have much more fun with the DKoK.

Thanks all,
Ed

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

As a Krieg player I can tell that you won't get bored, that's true.

My list at the moment is pretty bad (mostly to the lack of money) and I have lost almost every game with them, at least in previous editions.
Still having a lot of fun. But my army is more of a "fix bayonets and charge" typish rather than trying anything competitive.
I also love the face of my enemy when you drop a full barrage from thudd guns to their infantry squads.

Put on some epic music, line those guardsmen on the table and prepare to drop some shells. You won't get disappointed

I don't know about the DKoK, but I do know that Elysians are a total **** ***** to assemble. Those tiny little arms with tiny guns! So fiddly! Argh!
DKoK have larger guns, so I imagine they are easier to hold into place when glueing or dryfitting.
A lot of Elysian poses are also really awkward and require some remodeling to look good imo.

Same with DKoK actually. Had totally forgotten this, it has been so long since I assembled mine.
Lots of grinding and playing with hobby knife, messing glue all over my fingers etc.

And be very careful with storing and transporting your models. Those lasguns will bend/break fairly easy...
