Be wary of LOW-based lists, many people in the community think they are cheesy.

That could work, but the knights have a good advantage because of their versatility. If you do a bane list, run the Doom hammer with 4 heavy flamers, it's called the brawler tank because you just run it into melee then each shooting phase you load 4 heavy flamers into what ever is smacking you.

LoW lists look cheesy, but most of them are not that strong, they are like people who lift in CrossFit. The put a bunch of big plates on a bar, but when you look closer you see they are all just big ten pound plates.

To many unpainted models to count.

I agree, Blackspacehacker, but that doesn't change people's opinions.

FWIW I run superheavy tank companies as often as possible in my games, and my most recent battle report features a brawl between Baneblades and Knights, which might help OP decide.

100% pick an army you like the look of first and work around that. If you like orks, go for a Meganobz list for gaks and giggles.

Who says he has to do the diamond thingie though? His army, his painting.

Harlies are a fast moving and hard hitting elite force.
I have about 25 Harlie models, but only the metal ones which are rather easy to paint (colorful).

Yeah the other nice thing about knights is since they are so new and the lore of them is really fresh, you can make them "your dudes" really easily

For sure. I've considered running a Knight household myself, but the biggest thing stopping me is the LOW hate; instead I'm considering starting a Mechanicus army when Fires comes out.

Speaking of which, though it may not be competitively viable, Mechanicus can actually make quite fun elite lists, with troops choices that cost 70 points per model, for example.

Thanks for the feedback guys, everyone pretty much said what I thought was true in regards to Alpha strikes, screens etc.

I definitely think at the moment I will probably curb the elite army idea, I haven't painted a horde army in forever, so meh, just get over it I guess.

On the different armies people have suggested:

Dark Angels: Deathwing and Knights especially are pretty resilient with the 3+ invulnerables from storm shields and were the Space Marine chapter I was looking at because of this. There are pretty decent horde clearing weapons across units, but I think only the flyers interest me in that respect and I can probably expect to be tarpitted at my opponents mercy.

Harlequins: I really do think these guys would deal with hordes pretty well considering, regular troupes are filthy good in combat, but as someone mentioned I think I would get upset that my painting skill doesn't allow for diamonds XD

Orks: shooting is hard and with all the -1 to hit thats floating around, its even damn harder, some of the vehicles character and the psychic power combo for movement really makes it hard to resist.

Tau: If close combat wasn't restricted to Commander Farsight, and with all the alpha strike at the moment I really can't see what they are going to do to fix this shy of making some combat suits (CAN ONLY HOPE THIS HAPPENS!! )

I guess the only thing I can do is mull it over some more, build some more lists and see what list I find the coolest.
