We have a local shop that makes the things they sell from the shop and has a website .they don't have to supply any of their product to anyother shops why would games workshop have to do the same ?

Not quite the same.

If you're a manufacturer you're under no obligation to supply anyone. Full stop.

If you're a manufacturer and choose to be a retailer while simultaneously acting as a wholesaler to other retailers, there's a bunch of anti competition law that comes into effect.

The reality is that large amounts of the legality are almost unenforceable unless the company in question is dumb enough to effectively hang themselves, but, superficially, any company selling wholesale and direct retail has to treat third party retailers approximately equally to their own stores.

We find comfort among those who agree with us - growth among those who don't. - Frank Howard Clark

Yep uk licence to treat laws mean any seller can choose to sell their products to who ever they want they can't be forced to sell them to others they don't want to .

I've had to edit / remove some extremely rude posts in this thread - please remember that rule #1 of Dakka is "Be Polite".

It's OK to disagree, but we ask you to do so respectfully, and without insulting other posters. Thanks for understanding, all!

There's also the fact that if FW are sold from GW brick and mortar shops, they'd need to allow 3rd parties to sell them as well

This ^ - if they sell it in their stores there's a load of monopoly/competition laws that come into play.

Malarchy! First FW is a fully-owned subsidiary of GW. It's a minor, but important point since they are technically two separate companies. Second, can third parties order the online one models from GW? How will Privateer Press get around the same "laws". Simple, there are none regarding "monopolies". If Apple only wants to sell Beats headphones on it's own online store or retail outlets that's it's business.

Privateer press are not a UK company so would have no effect on them also they do not have there own retail stores so again no issue for them. Apple not sure but in the UK all there products are available from numerous store and the stormfront chain also they do not manufacture there own products so would not be effected.

True on an individual basis for retailers and distributors, manufactures have to be more careful but can also do it.
However as AZ said if you are all 3 then that causes a number of inter linked competition laws to kick in both UK and EU all though I believe this is one of the few cases where UK law is tougher than EU.

The only exemptions are based on market share which is where GW get caught out because either way you look at it, they are the only suppliers of GW products and there the biggest individual seller of wargames as they state themselves.

The EU is looking at making changes to there laws but any changes are a fair way out, but in principle they are looking at removing the exemptions that allow GW to enforce there tiered discounts to retailers and to penalise online only stores. They are also looking at other stuff but as I say that could be sometime away even if it is passed.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Warhammer Citadel wrote:Well today is the day, and a deal is a deal. First of all thank you for sharing all of the posts. You did it! We are proud to announce that the Warhammer Citadel is going to open its doors June 9th and 10th at noon! Make sure to sign up for the event (see the events section), and bring all of your friends.

The second bit of information is that the Citadel WILL carry Forgeworld products. Yep folks, that is what the big project was/is that we are working on. We’ve spent the last few weeks building a ton of Forgeworld models for the display case. (see pics below)

Make sure you get down here on opening weekend. Not only will there be a large selection of Forgeworld on sale, but there will be lots of Warhammer Citadel exclusives. We will also have the Limited Edition Space Marine Captain, and all sorts of additional cool Warhammer products. This is big news, so please share this post with as many people as you can!

So...it's true, at least in the case of the Warhammer Cafe.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It's on the Warhammer Citadel page.

It's not really going to affect anyone else it seems.

By the Emperor, please never let this be a thing.

If I have to buy ForgeWorld in-store then I have to pay the obscene (potentially 60-70+%) markups GW puts on the Australian Dollar conversion, which will murder their Australian sales.

To give you an idea, want to buy a box of plastic MKIV Marines from GW Australia? Ok great, go to ForgeWorld, order a unit of plastic MKIV Marines with a resin Legion shoulderpad upgrade. You’ll get the resin shoulderpads free and it’ll still be cheaper than picking a box of just the Marines off your local Australian GW shelf.

It’s atrocious.

So in that case order direct from FW. Because having more options obviously is bad right?

We can't order from GWUK. Why would we be able to order from FWUK is FW came to Oz?

Seeing rumour says only most popular options and not to mention not every city in the world has GW stores would kinda make sense...Otherwise they are basically cutting off most of products completely and cut down possible places people can buy from. I know I couldn't buy FW stuff anymore if I couldn't order online. But of course rumour was simply selected items available at brick&mortar. I find it HIGHLY dubious FW would go for brick&mortar store only.
