MSU Hunters with plasma gun + pistol+ combi plasma on foot, chainswords are free, so get them. Single Cyber Wolves to screen against DS hold home objectives. Outflanking Wulfen, WG with Jump packs and Combi-plasma or on bikes with stormbolters.

Blood/Swift/Storm Claws are useless.
Arjac and Harald are the best special Characters.

So basically as much plasma as you can shoehorn in. Is that it?

If I was gonna do that then I'd play vanilla SM - 6 Tac squads, three Dev squads, all Combat Squad'ed to hell. But the infantry gun line seems too static to me.

Chaos must be rocking this edition.

Yeah it's sad because at the start melee was quite viable, but then codex releases quickly outpaced us.

I damn sure hope they bring along Russ, we have had to wait far to long for this codex... the harlequins and custodes for that matter are getting one before us, which seems like kinda an insult.

I've been out of the game for a while. What is the current Space Wolves meta?

Back in the day playing Space Wolves was all about having 10 man Grey Hunter squads, marines with Bolter, Bolt Pistol and close combat weapon, and two guys assault weapons like Flamers, all mounted in a Rhino. You used the Rhino to get into close range, no matter who your opponent was. Anything you really didn't want to assault, like 'Nids or Orks, would go down easy to Bolters & Flamers. MEQs, who could shrug off Flamers and Bolter shots, you got into assault with and beat them by having two swings to their one.

Now the game seems to favor MSU (multiple small units), and Marine players are Combat Squad'ing their infantry. That's fine for Ultras and Darkies. How are people playing Wolves these days?

I play Primaris Wolves now, so I can't really tell you about the meta for all the wolves. 2 wounds is so important in 8th and Primaris is full of 2 wound models, plus Primaris will most likely replace normal marines anyways.

So I have always rolled with mostly melee for my army and it has worked great for me until everyone I play got their codex and now I have a much harder time so I can agree with this but I refuse to drop my blood claws and wulfen combo, and maybe its just 7th ed bleed but I still have a hardtime taking plasma.

You can't expect that there'll be something special for your army, just because you were among the last to release. There'll always be a "last army" to release in any edition, it's just the way GW does things.

As far as Russ goes - no Primarch is dead, now that they can sell models and rules for them. Lore has officially taken a back seat to money (not that I mind models and rules existing for models/units that are "extinct" in the fluff; more options is always great); it's just that the fluff is being retconned non-stop, in an effort to shoe horn in new model releases and "advancements".

no I totally get that and dont expect anything short of a codex, but, and I am assuredly biased in that I have only really gone hard into SW lore, the SW are one of the most storied chapters and have gotten the short stick in a lot of recent lore and with the end times being eluded at this would be the perfect time to bring Russ back with his frienemy maybe even.

My want for Russ is feeding nothing but my love of the SW fluff, but my want for a codex is to hopefully feel less disadvantaged when playing against codex having armies.

I snagged the start colelcting space wolves box last week and the manager of my local GW asked me if I was rpepping for the "upcomign space wolves vs orks summer campaign" he coulda just been blowing hot air but it's worth noting

that would be pretty cool, plus orks and SW have had some fun meet ups in fluff.

the only reason I'm skeptical at all is we had a wolves vs orks box about 2 years back or so. still Orks vs Primaris Wolves might work, especially if the long suspected "wave 2" of primaris comes out, I could see for example vetern primaris being first displayed as "Primaris Wolf guard" or something

Considering we already know sisters of battle are in 2019
And rogue trader game is the end of 2018 (maybe inquisitor or agents of imperium codex related)
This leaves the next 3 codecs as orks, space wolves and (gene cults or) khorne codex which makes sense since rumors are the next campaign centers on armeggedon (ullnar) the main planet of both the ork original empire (ghaz personal army training ground) and some reason khorne/Angron has a hardon for it. And where does armeggedon sit? Right next to the remains of fenris...However the space wolves kinda got thier butts kicked in recently so not sure why they jump into this fight so soon.

It’s not like the only reasoning for a Russ model is the codex release order, lol. It’s far from a certain thing, but there are several rumors all pointing at Russ and/or Angron over the next year or two.

Because they just got a thousand new marines and need a way of testing their fangs.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Because thats what space wolves do, I give you this quote from logan grimnar. "They outnumber us a hundred to one. Their aircraft darken the skies, their tanks churn the ground to mud, and all we have is our axes and our ill temper. Hardly a fair fight, is it my wolves? Let them pray their Weakling gods have pity on them, for we shall not."

Store managers are so far down the food chain they rarely know anything more than standard internet scuttlebutt. The people who do know ain't talking yet.

Anyone who claims to know for sure when Wolves are coming is either lying, making a lucky guess or violating their NDA in ways that would make a Keeper of Secrets blush!

Yeah I'm guessing he's just relying on the internet scuttlebut here, and I tend to place "my local GW store guy said.." as pretty low in reliability, but it's worth mentioning

My local GW store manager said we're all getting free Orks because GW feels so bad for Ork players this year.

I like the title of this thread. It suggests that the Orks will be invading Terra with hundreds of copies of the Space Wolf Codex.

Now all I can imagine is Orks with axes made of the space wolf codex and they're shoving the primaris space wolves down the emperor's throat like "Ya will play theyz speciul space wolvz an younwill loike it!"

oh how one could only but hope, a chance to kill me a green skin and at the same time acquire my codex fortune would be truly shining on me that day.

Call me negative all you want but I am deeply worried about a joint release of any faction with Orkz. I can almost see GW rule writers frantically finding ways to nerf any advantage orkz would have so that the "Good Guys" win. You know, like giving us a 6+ FNP on top of a character that already has a 6+ FNP or maybe giving us a super amazing rule on a heavy transport that lets it fire its USELESS weapons at full BS after moving but doesn't convey to the passengers. Or changing the cover rules so that only elite armies get a real benefit from it anymore.

Nah, GW would never do something like that.
