Ahhh, yes this is my problem with 8th edition and 2hat makes me super scared for Orks. All the cool upgrades we used to get are being turned into strategiems. In my mind this has a few negative effects. For one, it takes away options and just dedicates these options to things you can only use once per phase. And two, it's a little lazy and it takes up space of potentially cool orginal starts.

I don't think you need to worry that much. Orks had a lot of flavor removed in the index and especially since older books. Thousand Sons "lost" Warpflame Gargoyles as a vehicle upgrade, but got a stratagem that was way better than what it use to be anyway. I expect to see lots of older Ork concepts make a resurgence.

Still... would rather them be options for points and not things I need CP for. It's just the way I like to play... you have to remember as an Ork player we haven't used them for almost a year now so to me they're just kinda not a thing I care a bout.

Look at it from the other direction - Orks can get easy CP and you don't have to pay points for something you might not get full use out of on every model that can have it.

e.g. Back to Warpflame Gargoyles - my vehicles aren't always in a good spot for it and the ability would be far less powerful if it was available on all vehicles all the time. So I get a clutch ability, but only when I want with no point investment.
