if your going to go that route consider contemptor mortis instead or just mixed weapon relic contemptor, both are FW dreadnaughts but they are much better than vanilla codex dreadnaughts which as too easily removed by a lot of armies.

DA Plasma Devastators are pretty crazy with all the mad buffs they can stack and their 3 damage overcharge.

Dark it was, and dire of form
the beast that laid them low
Hrothgar's sharpened frost-forged blade
to deal a fatal blow
he stalked and hunted day and night
and came upon it's lair
With sword and shield Hrothgar fought
and earned the name of slayer

I’m gonna go with a lascannon venerable dread, with the caveat that it’s the FW Chaplain venerable run run as Deathwatch. Character status, 2+ to hit, reroll 1’s to wound, and +1 to wound with stratagems.

There are a lot.

Anything with a neutron weapon is top-tier right off the bat. The cerberus especially. The Flachion has a twin volcano cannon, 2d6 hits doing 2d6 damage.

I tried one out and was underwhelmed. They cost a lot of points and are deceptively squishy once something with S8 or above gets pointed their direction (like plasma Scions). They do put out more damage per point than a Predator, though, and they don't degrade, so maybe I just had a bad game with mine. I'll need further study before I render my final judgement on them.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

I still don't see the point of the Mortis when the Venerable exists unless you really need to save those 15pts or want one of the very few unsupported weapon combos. Venerable is BS2 and you can still do dual lascannons.

As to the comment above, yeah, that Falchion can put some serious hurt on something, but those twin volcano super heavies are also 700-1000pts. At that point you're the one worrying about cheap AT pointed at you, not vice versa.

I think Contemptor Mortis is the way to go personally.

BS2+, 10W and 5++, with 4 lascannons for 206pts.

You're spending 50pts, though, to upgrade that venerable ML for 2 lascannons, and for +2 wounds and a 5++.

That's a good deal, but not always one you'll want to take. In my experience, Contemptor Mortis have done solid work when in a list with a bigger badder threat.

A Contemptor Mortis Dread with 2 twin-lascannon and the missiles up top puts the hurt on vehicles with a max possible (is albeit unlikely) 6D6 mortal wounds

Fairly sure that they won't be mortal wounds.

Is the missile launcher a good option on the Contemptor Mortis? My gut reaction is that it's too expensive, but if you've already paid for the platform..

Sure, I like the Contemptor Mortis too. But the regular Mortis still seems outclassed by the Venerable or the Contemptor.

And yeah, that cyclone launcher option seems like putting too much on 1 target, but then again it’s also the same price as putting the same missiles on 2 devs and there you have to pay +26pts for the bs3 bodies too. Im thinking, as long as you’re pretty sure the dread will live for a round or more, add the missiles?
