I think death grip might let you hit something you didn't charge. Charge Gallant at unit next to character you couldn't quite reach. Pile ln to be within 1" of character. Stomp squad, then death grip the character. Could this be a thing?

Yeah - they are a very good imperial unit for any army.

Not sure, but at minimum just being able to charge into a unit and, say, Guilliman, simultaneously and have goods on killing both without ever actually having to waste attacks on the latter is good enough to warrant taking at least one Gallant in every army.

Helverin can be taken in squads of 3, right? So you can technically take up to 9 of them?

You’ll want a Perceptor to go with your Helverins, for the bonus. And two character Gallants for Stomp Stomp fun.

Thats what I was thinking, 2 Gallants would lower the overall cost of your army, and by making them both warlords and giving at least one of them the punchy relic to toss bodies he kills with Helverin and one Crusader or Castellan or some dakka knight as backup would work well I think. Otherwise if you just want to make one Gallant a character and like the Castellan or Crusader a warlord to give them relic. Endless Fury for the Crusader or the plasma relic for the Castellan would make for a pretty good long range support with the Helverin.
In the end, for a points reduction a Crusader might be a better choice with the Icarus Autocannon on its back for some anti-air that doesn't come with a CP cost. Though you could overwhelm an aerial target with all the Helverin without using CP, and if you keep the points low you might be able to take one more. With the 60" range? of the Helverins, not much can get out of the way of a pack of them laying down fire.

Though as death grip happens after Guillimann has struck he has chance of wrecking you first. Albeit odds are in your favour but bit touch&go.

I checked a leaked picture and Death Grip happens immediately after an Imperial Knight model with any form of Thunderstrike Gauntlet has attacked, ergo if you charge and choose the Knight first you can resolve Death Grip before Guilliman strikes back.

My ranking of the GW Knights:
Warden
Gallant
Crusader
Perceptor
Canis Rex
Errant
Paladin
Castellan
Valiant
Raven Warden with Gauntlet and Stormspear for 461 points is probably the ideal setup. Take Ion Bulwark for the WLT and either Endless Fury or Paragon Gauntlet for the relic.
House Taranis/Raven, Death Grip, and Ion Bulwark are what drive the value improvements of AdMech. I rank Raven Warden over Taranis Gallant because it gets an Avenger instead of +1WS, +1A, and a redundant Reaper. This means it gets a lot more flexibility.
