Sure. Now imagine your Tac Marine carrying around a Lasgun. Or a Guardsman hipfiring a Tesla Destructor.

Not all units across all factions are as fluff-compatible with alternate loadouts. Rangers could do those things, but not Scorpions.

I don´t care if it is a shuriken cannon or a totally new weapon. GW is known for doing retcons and I don´t think making just a few more weapons available to a unit would break the game or damage the fluff in a hard way.

GW would have then the opportunity to sell use new unique model kits for these limited unit selection in no time. Take the Striking Scorpions for instance. They always had the chainsword, shuriken pistol and mandi-blasters for their equipment choices plus a few grenades. But with a new kit you could introduce new weapons available to them much in the same way like in Necromunda with all the various gangs. Just imagine a Striking Scorpion with a shuriken cannon to suppress enemy units from afar. Another model could be preparing a trap on the ground for their enemies and so on. Instead GW tries to peddle us the old stuff from 40K. I know the Rogue Traders and Nurgle mutants are new but all the other faction got nothing.

Like half the reason for Kill Team is to use the 40k models you already have in a smaller game.

And again, Necrons. How do you make a unique kit for Necron Warriors with a bunch of new weapon options when literally the whole point of the unit is that every warrior is an identical, mindless slave to their overlord's will?

GW sure isn't perfect, but nothing gives me more confidence in their game design abilities than alternative suggestions put forth by the community...

Simple you would not use that unit for what people keep asserting is about "special forces" type units:

You would have Deathmark or Lychguard - if we have the Lictor in the game why not the Canoptic Wraith? Rangers but no Mandrakes, Ratling Snipers, Guard Vets.

The unit selection is a right mess.

I think Kill Team upgrade sprues would be better than full-on kit changes would be a better idea. Could do it by race/faction - could certainly see KT sprues for Imperial, Eldar, Tau (experimental weapons), Chaos and ‘Nids at least, and expect Necrons and other races having some exotic weapons. Ork would just steal/acquire everyone else’s tech and use it for themselves- though a “Mek Kustom Dakka” sprue wouldn’t be out of place.

That way, with only a sprue upgrade, you don’t have to affect normal 40K and can play to the customization feature of KT.

It never ends well

Deathmarks have the exact same problem as warriors; a deathmark isn't a person, it's a sniper rifle with a dude attached to it.

I agree. 40K shouldn´t be changed by the new weapon loadouts but it would definitely spice up kill-Team.

It's really unclear about whether or not your kill team can contain mixed models- the whole Sergeant, Gunner, Fighter thing feels like it wouldn't be necessary if you were able to field mixed units.

At the same time, I feel like it would be a huge mistake to go with teams consisting of a single unit- that's too close to single unit vs single unit 40k.

I'm a guy who looks for silver linings, and I prefer narrative play to competitive play so if I had to say one good thing about full unit teams is that they could be fielded in 40k. You couldn't necessarily use any of the special rules/ gear, but the team could "count as" a regular unit of its type. In friendly games, you might be able to convince someone to field their Kill team in 40k, provided they could do the same.

I'd like to see some mixed race/faction Kill teams, like you could do back in Rogue Trader days.

Imagine a kill team with a Commisar commander (& a Kroot Hound pet), a Space Marine bodyguard, an Eldar mercenary, Admech "slicer", and a handful of Imperial Guard soldiers to round the team out.

It never ends well

Gaming with no limits is what Open Play is for.

GW already did that. It's called 7th Edition.

If you'd like at any of the example kill teams you'd see that's not the case.

The three different roles is because there are caps on how many specialists and leaders you can have and they have different wargear options.

I mean, I feel the same way, but I also don't think I should be able to take anything I want and demand the game be balanced anyways.

You can't add psyker support? I think Thousand Sons will have psykers but vanilla marines can't. With old rules you could play ravenwing capturing fallen missions, but now you can't use bikes.
