So I tend to see a decent amount of people always groaning about IoM or chaos getting a small subfaction as allies and how xenos don't have any.

But what is there?

A lot I would say. There are literally dozens of alien races not represented yet and each race could easily be subdivided.

I'll say upfront that I'm not much of a lore buff but what I do know is that(or at least as far as I know) Tau and eldar are the only ones that could really have allies.

I guess screw Orkz? I mean they only mercenary out on a regular basis. But lets explore that even further, why must the alien factions actually function together on a regular basis? Maybe the Eldar decided that helping the orkz win a specific battle will save a craftworld in a Thousand years? Or the Tau hired Orkz as mercenaries.....something that is literally written in the fluff.

As far as Tau go in my opinion it would be a waste of time to have "allies" when they could simply be in the codex like kroot.

As far as Space Marines go, in my opinion, it would be a waste of time to have "allies" when you could just get rid of all the chapters and make 1 entry in a IoM Codex for Space Marines.

Tyranids? Genestealer cults? These guys don't play well with others. Plus the cult pretty much is a way to ally in guard with big monsters

Nope they don't....almost like GW wrote them that way instead of giving them more leeway...weird huh? But of course the fluff also supports Nidz using Stealers to ....well steal genes and turn IoM and others into slaves. Written in the fluff is nidz working with Tau/Ork/IoM and other factions that have been infected.

Necrons? Other dynasties? Kinda pointless, fun for a narrative game

Space Marines? Other Chapters? Kinda pointless, fun for a narrative game.

Orks? Bigger orks? Again why bother? Just have them in said codex

Grotz, Squigz, the numerous different klanz that have different play styles.

 fraser1191 wrote:
Finally eldar. CWE, DE and harlequins can already ally together either separately or as ynnari. The only opportunities I know of would be the corsairs and the exodites both of which I would say justify their own book and could then be allies.

Weird you have no problem with the other special snowflake faction getting more allies.

 fraser1191 wrote:
So are there big groups that are hiding in books that could potentially be a large enough faction to branch off for their core army?

Big enough? You mean like Orkz....what do they call their favorite tactic? Ohh yeah GREEN TIDE, as in a giant wall of orkz. What about nidz and their fleets the size of entire Segmentum fleets? Tau? Kroot, Vespids, Demiurg....

I think it'd be cool if they did a "Traitors to Humanity" codex. I'm basically picturing the guard army list but with the choice of several different keywords. It could cover humans who have joined the Tau Greater Good, Chaos guard could be brought out of Forgeworld, and Necron-enslaved humans.

R&H or chaos guard as you put it is big enough in itself (chaos cults, unaligned rebellions, Hereteks were also included, mercenaries, traitor elite regiments think blood pact, professional revolutionairies, Mutants uprisings, etc.) , well was, ever since 8th ripped apart every choice or unique unit /customization we had.

I'd agree however that unaligned choice or mercenary choice should be able to ally into (albeit a small detachment only) Tau, Orkz or even Eldar.

I would also not be bothered if Kroot got a boost and the Tau finaly would get Gue'vesa (?) options.

Also i really like to see a Kanz warband as a seperate entry, call it bigmek armies. Seeing as they are often nutjobs lead by bigger brainboyz i'd see it as a fluffy and distinct enough small book.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Oh, you mean like Space Marines and Space Marines:Red?

There are 10 million colors of Space Marines that all get their own books, and get to ally together - even though conceptually they're all the same unit - Space Marine.

Good one.

Oh geez I'm sorry did I say I loved how there are so many marine books? No? Cool. Don't put words in my mouth

It's kind of implied though, as you didn't start a thread about the game needing to have all its codexes paired down to their basic essentials. You started this thread because you felt that most Xenos factions didn't warrant having additional allied factions. Your basically saying that these armies don't need more than their basic essentials but it's okay if GW keeps expanding on the Imperium and sometimes on Chaos.
