Well, on the subject of Loken, the sub-text of the character strongly hints that he is gay. For example, he is completely capable of assessing and appreciating the beauty of fellow Space Marines and male remembrencers, but seems incapable of doing so with women even when the text explicitely describes them as beautiful. Sexual attraction is a strong and common bias in assessing beauty especially in people who "aren't used" to assess the beauty of people.
Well it was written by Swallow.

No, by Abnett. That little snippet was in Horus Rising but I don't exactly know what the author's name changes considering it's pretty much between Abnett, Counter, McNeil and Swallow, all long standing author for Black Library with a lot of titles under their name.

Because nuance does not exist in fluff, silly!

It kinda does, though. At least, in Black Library fluff it does, for all the reasons (and examples) already given.
Fluff in codex books either skirts around sexuality or treats it as an icky unpleasantness, for sure.

To my knowledge, the only Black Library with a more less pertinent and developped romance sub-plot was in Path of the Eldar where there is some sort of love triangle going on, but even then, it's not a center point or an area of high drama. I think BL would gain for investing a little bit more this area instead of producing quasi exclusively Space Marine bolterporn. At that point, the popularity of Space Marines is nearly self-prophetic.

For some reason this post reminded me of Big Gay Al's song in South Park (I'm Super, Thanks for Asking).
Chuckling at the thought of a space marine breaking into this song when asked how he's doing.

I do too, but they have a demographic and the demographic is... not progressive. For clarity, my point was not that Black LIbrary are masters of the art. Black Library are not even apprentices of any art.
Just that some nuance does exist. There's even a reference to a Sister of Battle ( IIRC) sneaking around for a bit of the old in and out.

Well the orks are always too busy fighting themselves, as for the Eldar they were at such a technological zenith that they had no dangers from other species. Their part of the galaxy was big enough for resources etc. why would they need to conquer, they were too busy having a good time. Mankind spread like bunnies is probably the reason they have colonised so much of the galaxy.

It's been mentionned in the past that Eldars regularly culled the Ork population when their civilisation was at its height. They also destroyed several other xeno species like the original Mon-Keigh for example (they were kind of like wookies apparently). There might have been other species that came and went during those 60 million years. The Orks themselves changed during all that time. Modern Orks and 60 million years old Orks are hinted to be different with talks of brainboyz and snotlings being important.

With the vast amount of xenos species already known, then yeah there must be tonnes of species that came and went, through the eons.

I would have to agree with this. The eldar ruled the galaxy for ~40 million years before the fall. Mankind emerging from one planet and spreading across the galaxy as fast as they did over the course of 30,000 years was EXTREMELY fast from the eldar POV. Faster even than the orks spread.
They still considered us beneath them, and not a thing to be worried about. The collapse of DAoT humanity due to our trusting natures and over-reliance on AI proved them right.

Or whoever wrote it forgot when Marines became marines.
Considering that he didn't give enough of a feth to think of something other than "wolf", that might be the case.
Space Wolves in general become Marines later than most.
The Wolves don’t grow up in military camps waiting for the opportunity, they grow up in the wilds/tribal communities on Fenris, they get drunk, get laid, live life and go to war before the Space Wolves even see them for the first time. Russ believed that Fenris chose the best for him and in exchange he should let them have lives so they knew what they were fighting for.

One thing I wonder about is primarch size. I mean if primarches we're like 7-8' tall that's one thing, but 15+ feet is another! I mean it seems odd no one on their worlds, especially primitive ones, were terrified of their size. Also it makes me wonder how sanguinius and fulgrim, to name 2, were able to live in the human sized settlements they were adopted into. Also did they have to rebuild a lot of buildings for primarchs on various worlds? How'd they fit thru most doors, into most vehicles?

Cain's Last Stand by Sandy Mitchell. At this point, Commissar Cain is retired and working as a teacher at a Scholasta Progenium. Said Battle Sister is another teacher at the same establishment (Cain trains commissar cadets, she trains Sororitas acolytes). Not only is the Sister a mean poker player, she's having a secret affair with the Administratum Adept in overall charge of the facility. There's also a scene with one of the acolytes flirting with one of Cain's cadets in the background.

Amen. I usually just disregard those descriptions while reading the books, and imagine them a head or 2 taller than the tallest SM. Or use the forge world models as a comparison.. So my konrad Curze is only a few millimetres taller than sevatar. I'm happy with that.

That's no bigger, IIRC, than the Forge World one. Having him standing on a pile of tactical rubble doesn't help either.
I just think of it as character models being bigger. like the female Inquisitor from the Triumvirate box, or the special-edition Blanche Battle Sister.

If we accept typical marines as 7' tall then guilleman has to be over 11' tall at a minimum. Remember the other characters are standing on rubble too so that doesn't really help. Also count the height of the other marines from the tops of their heads not the stuff over that. RG is likely 12-14 or so feet tall. Makes me wonder how big building on macragge were ...

There is a YouTube video that does a prettty good job of using official artwork to put most of the Primarchs around nine foot tall. Kind of makes sense, the average person is 5’11, the Space Marine transformation adds on a percentage to fit in the new organs so at 20% growth the average Space Marine adds on about a foot and becomes 6’11 add on power armour and you’re looking at around seven foot and that isn’t a lanky seven foot basketball player that’s a solidly built seven foot tall figure, fairly intimidating.
Add another foot for terminator armour, at eight foot tall and three and a half foot across the shoulders most American football players in full kit would feel small standing next to such a figure, Primaris Marines are noticeably taller than that so anywhere from 8’1 to 8’5 and at nine foot a Primarch is a monster.
