For as much as it seems popular to trash The Matrix, the first one was pretty good, the second one had its moments and was "OK" and yeah, the third one wasn't good.
DARK CITY is really good though - a fun, trippy ride!
The only good thing about Revolutions is you get more Agent Smith. Other than that its crap.

I think the performances are pretty underwhelming, although I guess it could be argued that the actors were directed to take a stylized rather than naturalistic approach to match the overall design of the film.

In the matrix every single bad character was white.
In the first a vile traitor to the good guys was white. All the agents were white.
After the first movie they actually had albino bad guys. In the third they showed the architect of the matrix and he was basically colonel Sanders.
Yep, portraying every single bad person as a member of one ethnicity is racist stereotyping. The message sure looked like "Vast majority of white men are evil" to me. Also the more evil someone was, the whiter he was.
The ultimate evil was the whitest man possible. Remember him?
Yeah, they had a couple token whites on the good guy side, but the overall meme of "white=evil" was pretty blatant .

FWIW, I also thought the first Matrix was quite good.
However, I thought the second was appallingly bad and I didn't bother with the third.

This would be a valid critique if we were talking about Bird Box or something, but I think the 90's were a little before the time of the transcendental levels of wokeness we have today. You could say that because all of the bad guys were white, it's racist against whites; but you could conversely say that because there are few black people (at least in the first one) it's racist against blacks. In reality, the country was something like 80% white at the time the movie was made so the cast overall was pretty representative of the general population, even if they're not evenly distributed to the "bad" and "good" sides. That could easily have been coincidental.
Also, I wouldn't necessarily characterize the machines or programs in the Matrix as "evil" per se. In a way they're fighting for survival and self-determination just like the humans are, and the humans are the ones who started everything. The Architect doesn't have evil intentions, he just has a job to do and order to maintain in the system under his charge. He's even willing to compromise and negotiate peace in the end. He's not out to destroy humanity out of hatred or spite, he's just responsible for the state of his own people.
20 years later, you don't even have to question whether a movie is racially conscious, because it will tell you

This is one of those sci-fi movies I always bring up, and people stare at my blankly like it's just some figment of my imagination.
It was almost a slow burn for some people, I think- back then, I suppose Sci-Fi needed lasers and explosions to keep the attention of the masses.
Also, the Matrix wasn't awful at all- it was pretty awesome. But the sequels were just kinda bad, and I felt like they could have both been the same movie and the AniMatrix should have been a feature-length live-action prequel instead.

...I've literally sat down to listen to a white supremacist before. Not because I wanted to hear him out and see if he had any 'good points', but for the sole purpose of understanding what makes a person like this tick. I don't think I can change a person like him, but I can understand what makes him tick.
He made some points- a lot of them were pretty much just twisting something and cherry-picking, of course. Most all of them were completely bananas.
And yet, none of them were as outlandishly crazy as what you've said here.
Look, dude- I'll gladly agree that there's a lot of 'fashionable racism' out there that's basically just lashing out at white folks, and it's no better than lashing out at any other race IMHO.
But, the Matrix? Dude. You're complaining that a movie made in a country that's ~70% white or at least white-ish is... featuring a cast of white villains?
Like, every head honcho in Cobra was white- you gonna sit here and tell me GI Joe was racist?

I enjoy his son's books and comics as well. Less comical for certain, but he knew how to write about an 'issue' without it being a partisan matter.

I love Dark City. I originally watched it because it was directed by Alex Proyas and I also loved The Crow.
I am surprised that no-one has pointed out that it is now possible to buy and model your own Mr Hand, Mr Book and Mr Door...

Factually incorrect, punching a cowboy's horse is literally the funniest thing ever. You could make a movie that is just 90 minutes of that, set to hokey harmonica music and I would pay movie theater tickets and steal the release poster.

Mongo only Pawn in Game of Life. Also, "Is it twoo what they say about how your people are gifted?" unzips pants "its twoo, its twoo!" I love that film. Breaks apart near the end, but I find a lot of Mel Brooks' films do that. Automatically Appended Next Post: I was the first one on Dakka who compared the new Delaque models to the Strangers in Dark City in the Delaque thread. Everyone else compared them to Cenobites or Dune. Maybe someone else made the comparison, but I didn't see one before mine.

They do match up pretty darn well. I never really got into the new Necromunda, but the Delaque models have such a distinct aesthetic, yet lend themselves so well to various types of conversions and stand-ins, that they are pretty tempting nonetheless.

Insecure much? I meant in this thread, not the whole of Dakka. Don't worry, your prestige is intact though. Are you sure it was only Dakka where you said it first, and not the whole internet? I mean, I haven't checked all of it, but it seems likely.
