I know parades in USA are for honoring things but mediterranean carnaval is the inverse, we make floats of things we are mocking. But I think the different perception is because cultural differences. Nobody I know (From Spain) has doubt for a second that this float was making fun of Trump.

That may be but, as you say, the effect isn't transcultural.

Not sure about the double headed eagle, actually. It wasn't just used by Russia. It could just be a more general imperial symbol, as it was used by the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantines before the Russians.

Wouldn't GW pounce on this? I mean, talk about breach of IP.

Would be fun to see GW's lawyers in action again. But, no, it's not a breach of IP. Satire is protected by law.

Carnival parades are probably well enough understood across Europe and generally aimed regionally or at most nationally. I don't think anyone from further away is meant to be addressed.

Not sure what it’s made of (I live near Pasadena where they make floats out of flowers), but GW should take that thing, throw a proper emperors head on it, and set it up at Warhammer world. Would make an awesome display piece.

Again, I'm speaking to the effect as opposed to the intent. And, if you're correct, there's more than a little irony in the fact that while the artist made certain to address Trump's weaponized use of Twitter, the artist failed to take into account the global reach of media coverage of their satirical display.

It would take more than that, but yeah, GW should do something similar.

As has been made evident by the comments here plenty of folk miss the irony.

I really wish this kind of thing would just go away, I don't need my hobby associated with that in the minds of normies, they think we're weird enough as it is.

It also depends on the final end of the Carnival chariots, here in Spain Las fallas are well know for burning all the chariots at the end of it as part of tradition.

So which news or rumor about the world of miniature war gaming are we discussing? Is there an Emperor Trump mini being released?

As for Putin being on his shoulder that gives the picture of Putin controlling Trump and not vice versa, the whole statute is satirical

Hybrid you never dissapoint about ignoring the "No politic pl0x" warnings. But to be honest it was a matter of time.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

When wargaming imagery is coopted by political interests and reported upon by media outlets, it's hard to claim that it isn't news.

I don't want to get too involved with the politics of it all, since that will get the thread locked, but I'd lean away from it appearing that he's in command. You don't put your underlings on your armor/uniform. That would be like saying soldiers who wear American flag patches on their uniforms are being served by the United States, not serving it. Your underlings wear symbols of you as a show of respect, the higher up doesn't wear their icons or symbols. Just my two cents.

True enough, but my point is that I'm not sure that's the way the imagery will be perceived by an American audience.

People making a carnival chariot about Trump doesn't seems something notable to me, he's very famous worldwide, there are probably a few that were made before.

What I find unbelievable and worth commenting is a chariot with a huge floats inspired by the 40k emperor and tens of dancer (loosely) dressed up as ultramarines and SoB.

If you read the youtube and reddit comments, you're not wrong. Though, it also helps that people don't know who the God Emperor is and that he isn't a nice guy.
He's a xenophobic, anti religion tyrant who genocides his troops if it furthers his goals. But people who don't know that see shiny golden armor and think it's a great thing. (It also helps that the parade narration is in Italian, so the true purpose of the float isn't obvious to other countries)

While this is quite a fascinating topic, and absolutely deserves to be discussed, unfortunately the current political climate means that anything even remotely related to Trump is an incredibly hot-button issue that results in way, way too much effort on the part of our moderation team to keep a thread like this even just barely civil.
