Seriously. Like 70% of our options are either +1 To Hit in melee under various conditions, or Reroll hits in melee undervarious conditions. Then we've got standard Captain/Lieutenant buffs, a few other Wound roll modifiers (most of which are 1s only,) and lastly a relic, Warlord Trait, and squad who give extra attacks in melee.
That's 95% of our options, and outside of stacking the extra attacks in melee, it's generally not useful to invest in these heavily because there's so much overlap.
Space Marines are bad, but at least their options for core Chapter Tactics don't overlap most of their unit abilities and make everything feel redundant.
What about running a list a Vanguard detachment containing an HQ and four Wulfen Packs with TH/ SS and a Battalion detachment containing the Loyal 32? Granted, they probably wouldn't hit as hard as say... World Eaters, but they seem like they'd be a bit nasty to deal with.

Why pay a premium for Space Wolves when so many other armies do everything they do, but better, and cheaper?

Because nobody else has that signature blend of community dislike and a company that seems to adore making low quality garbage lore and models.

Don't get me wrong. I actually really like space wolves. I have a nice collection, painted and based with care.
But when it's competitive play i run dark eldar and eldar. Because i want to win. If you want to win, you shouldn't run wolves.

I'm thinking of the following for the armor color:
Primer: Grey
Base Coat: Mechanicus Standard Grey
All Over Layer: Dawnstone
Pin Shade: Nuln Oil
Do you think that Dawnstone would make the armor too bright?
Thanks

I don't know the GW equivalents, but I use
Rustoleum Grey primer. Good Airbrush of Army Painter Uniform Grey, Light Airbrush of Army Painter Ash Grey, Detail Work with lots of Copper/Gold/Bronze and Light Blues. Light Wash with a Dark Tone.
The first airbrush gives you your color, the light airbrush highlights and makes the exposed part bright while leaving the recesses still dark giving some shade. Very simple once everything is set up and mixed properly. I threw them on the Secret Weapon Runic Mountain bases with some snow highlights.

I'm playing 30k for my space wolf fix, no point bothering with 8th at the moment.

I don't get people who support this attitude? Nothing in the Indexes are broken or leading the competitive meta. All getting rid of the indexes is invalidate peoples models and further limits existing options.

Because Index options add work for TO's, so I absolutely am fine with them ignoring them. No one is invalidating your models, you just can't use them at a tournament where TO's have to spend a lot of time verifying lists. It also means it's less books they need to have on hand.
It's not because Index options are broken, it's because they're very time consuming to vet and verify for lists. Simple as that. You can keep model, and you can play with your model - just don't bring it to that tournament.

Hey guys, let's play maelstrom of war with GW missions. That sounds like a good test of my generalship.
I think they just don`t allow index weapon options. You can still play only index models.

Oh. That's another level of complication. I really want wolf guard bikers out of the game. That unit is a major source of nonsense. Automatically Appended Next Post: HoundsofDemos wrote:

As I just said, I want wolf guard bikers out of the game for starters.

there was a SW player that just went 5-1 at LVO so they can be played competitively. Playing friendly really shouldn't be an issue for any codex if that's your aim. I mean the LVO kinda showed that any army (except grey knights) can be piloted to a competitive level

Ehm, there are no space wolves in top in LVO, and even those who manages to grab some wins are soups with just a couple SW units supporting castellan.

If you bothered to read the list it was about 1000 points in superheavy.
Super heavies tilt the game in a dumb way. If you run into a list that can destroy them you lose, if you don't, you win.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's the list for those interested:
Battalion
Logan Grimnar (rerolls for Falchion)
Njal Stormcaller (protection for Falchion)
3x Intercessors (cheapest points/wound troop option in codex)
Supreme Command
Iron Priest on Bike (support Falchion)
Venerable Chaplain Dreadnought ( FW dread, with twin lascannon. Probably to pop saga with twin las)
Wolf Guard Battle Leader (reroll wound 1's for Falchion)
Lord of War
Relic Falchion - 1027 points
It is effortless to improve this list by dropping wolves, adding ultramarines and Imperial Guard.
The whole point of this is bringing a falchion and supporting a falchion.
It's more accurate to say "a Falchion went 5-1" than "Space Wolves went 5-1."
