Under the couch

Although it's worth noting that while con(or other event) -exclusive miniatures have certainly been a thing for a very long time, an increasing number of sellers these days offer the mini for sale online either at the same time as the event or sometime afterwards (to keep some small amount of 'exclusivity' to the event) precisely because of the negative sentiments expressed here.

It wouldn't be a proper game of man dollies if it didn't involve hurt feelings and crying.

They've been doing alternate captains for Games Day for ages, there's nothing unique about the model stats so it's never been a pay to play situation. It's just an alternate pose so put on the big boy panties.

Of the 1000 Primaris Lieutenants GW has put out, this might be the second one I really like after this guy.

Same here. I'll admit that I haven't bought much 40k in recent years myself but I've converted a couple of that figure despite the monotony of using a single sculpt because I like that pose and armor style so much. I have to agree that the model in the OP is a close second though and, if I were an UM player, would easily be the top one. He looks quite good on his own but the conversion/bling potential is quite high with it being so easy to add a cape and back banner in proper OTP Ultramarine style (assuming you're into that 2nd-3rd edition look).

it's hardly an example of profiteering by GW as its pretty much standard SM hero clampack prices

but perhaps that's what they should try

make a special SM lieutenant that's unlimited but £80 (& maybe with a good special rule or two)

And I think that's a bit sad tbh, that someone would be happy about a company using purely artificial scarcity to create an entirely false sense of rarity, that they would welcome being made to feel envious for zero good reason, and that they would eventually enjoy being taken for a ride by profiteering scalperscum.

Luckily these days it's pretty much an irrelevance, making the illusory sense of worth some people derive from this stuff even more laughable - there's the FB group in the short term, "other sources" if you miss out at the time, and given the quality coming out of the fan community these days it won't be long before people start uploading exact remakes of this "exclusive" BS as STLs for home printing.

Never get into toy collecting. Not only is this a regular thing, it's in fact often times the only way to get a certain character/deco and thus an actual must have for completionists(see: BotCon Thundercracker or PowerMorphicon Lord Drakkon) and the actual prices at said cons are 3-4 times the retail for the same mold before scalpers do their thing.
