Go IW. From what i've seen of peoples painted models the new shadowspear stuff just looks awesome in that scheme.

Im picking shadowspear up at the weekend and will be going IW, just really unsure how i want to build out my list.

That lord discordant does scream IW, but i honestly think in a NL scheme would look EPIC

Night Lords often operate as mercs for other warbands too. You could just paint a unit of them for kill team, and maybe some Raptors/Warp Talons as a kind of "your Iron Warriors have hired these two/three units" kind of thing.

Personally, my Night Lords army has a converted Dark Apostle that's secretly an Alpha Legion spy (who killed the Night Lord he is currently impersonating) who's trying to convert the warband to chaos, for some secret Alpha Legion goal. Most of my army isn't chaosy at all, but this Alpha Legion dude gives me an out to add Daemon Engines and chaotic units as much as I want to. For example, I have a couple of Daemon Princes, two Defilers, three Obliterators, and I'm getting some of the old Furies before they go OOP because the 3.5 codex said that Night Lord Raptors enslaved them.

The thing about Night Lords is that it's always fluffy as long as it's tragic. Or they're just plain getting the gal kicked out of them.

It's this tragedy of the Nightlords that I enjoy, or what gives them an edge over other legions as far as I am concerned. I dislike Alphalegion because the internet almost turned them into some sort of stupid meme. They have no real bite, fluffwise. No matter what happens, you can just go "everything according to plan" or something like this, which takes all supense out of it.

Night Lords have the prettier paint scheme
IW have the easier paint scheme (but hazard stripes can be tricky)
IW seems more effective on the table, though things change quickly nowadays
NL have the more fun play style

Since big chaos marines came out they got rid of the IW upgrade kit with the torsos, heads, lascannon and meltagun. I imagine the IW warsmith will go soon too, and the NL chaos lord, if they aren't gone already. In any case, both models would look tiny next to your new giant marines. If you go NL hopefully their upgrade kit still exists, I think the bat heads would be a cool way to differentiate squad leaders

There are IW head packs from FW for 30k. I also think that the Iron Hands Mk III heads look like they would go nicely with Iron Warriors.

I've been having a hard time deciding on whether to use the new CSM models for Iron Warriors or trying to upscale the 30k Mk III Marines. I do like the new CSM, and the IW look like other CSM in the art, but reading some of the books makes me think they wouldn't be so ornate.

Right now I'm leaning towards trying to kitbash the two sets together, but that might end up being the worst of both worlds haha.
