Am looking forward to getting into these. For the many years I wasn't playing 40k, I was still very much reading it! Am almost finished with James Swallow's Blood Angels omnibus, so will definitely look into these next.

Am up to my elbows in ‘Castle of Blood’.
It might be AoS, and thus a bit OT, but it is very, very good. Probably my favourite so far.
However, I’m a big fan of the author C L Werner. If you’re not into his prose, you may not get the same enjoyment. But defo worth a whirl.

I just read wicked and the damned. Got to say I wasn't super riveted by it... The first story of the commissar was good. It brought a sense of despair and hopelessness with a sort of surreal vibe. The second and third stories were a bit of a let down really. I think they both suffered from that age old problem of over describing the scary thing, and leaving nothing to the imagination. They both had potential, particularly the set on the remote ship breaker Station, but it's not easy to be scared of something when you know exactly what it is.

Just finished The House of Night and Chain. That started off well, but just became a slog to read.

Just finished reading the 40k stories in the anthology Invocations. While none of the stories were bad, I didn’t think any of them were particularly good. Some were so short that there was no chance to build any suspense for the actual horror aspect. I don’t know if it’s being so familiar with the 40k universe, or if none of the authors are really horror writers, but the stories are so predictable that you know the end before you’re a third of the way through.
