I’m torn on what to get. The only ones I don’t want are the Tau and Eldar ones. I don’t even collect Orks but I want that box.

I think I may have to pick up he Castellan one; even before FLGS discount, the Helverins are basically free.

Quite tempted by the tyranid box. I already have 6 carnifexes and 5 hive tyrants but none of them are magnetized or built to be shooty.
I would be more tempted by the necron one if it didn't have tomb blades as I hate building them.
IG I don't want more Leman Russes. I would have prefered an artillary battery with a basilisk, hydra and manticore.
AdMech I don't want to be That Guy.

I'm after the chaos space marine, ork, Imperial guard and admech sets. They're not all highly desirable from a game point of view but worth it for the discounts I believe.
Considering they're limited releases I'm pretty sure I'll have to order them all on preorder day (it's this Saturday isn't it?) as I suspect they'll sell out very quickly.
Good job I've just been paid.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples |

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

For the armies I play, Eldar and Ultramarines, I’m giving them a hard pass. I need more intercessors. But like 10-15 more, not 30. I already have that captain (although he could join the Deathwatch) and no interest in the dread. So not a whole lot of personal value from the box. Thematically, I understand the troop heavy nature of it, but marine players generally don’t have a problem with having enough troops. Every discount bundle box they drop more troops on you. After not long in the hobby, you end up with far more then you’d ever need, even for an apoc game. Not that long ago I picked up 2 of the SC: Eldar boxes. What does this give me that they didn’t? +spiritseer, 5 more WG, -2x farseers, 2x WWs. Net result is swapping one HQ for another, and then trading 5 WG for a farseer and 2 walkers. Woo, what a deal. With the limited number of modern eldar plastics we see a lot of repeats in our discount boxes. But this one is a pretty tight overlap with the curent SC. A better call might have been to go with a FA box, full of bikes, maybe backed up with a tank. Similar to the previous SC box (Jetseer, 3xbikes, FP)

although if you missed wake the dead the marine one isn't bad for multipart full set models.
Only if you're doing the entire Primaris Company of an entire Primaris Chapter or some such. 3 full squads of intercessors - plus any you got from Dark Imperium when you got your rulebook - is a bit loaded for players who are unlikely to take more than two in any given army as the other Troop(s) in a battalion is likely to be scouts, Infiltratrors or both.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings. |

craggy wrote:liking too many of these. Definitely after the Chaos one, as I want some of those new CSM, and a free set of bikes is good for me, as is the free Lord/Sorc. I'm gonna snag a box of Havocs to bulk out the Heavy Weapons options, and have a few options to convert some more chaincannons coming.
the Guard one is great, I'm just unsure if I'm going to convert them to GSC or Traitor Guard/R&H. Maybe be cheeky and do some non-specific conversions that should work for both.
The Tau one would round out the suit selection I've had in my head for a while, but the Knight one is very appealing as I've been fancying building a big boi lately. Again, might be able to work it up in such a way that it'd work as either an Imperial or Chaos one...we'll see.
as added incentive for the knight one, the chaos knights codex will proably be a mid july release given GW is teasing them with regimental standard

I dont understand why they are mostly infantry. Except the knights, AM and tyranids. Infantry is what 40k players usually have the most. I would expect an apocalypse starter box to be three lord of skulls, or something like that. When i hear apocalypse i imagine three lord of skulls hitting a warlord titan with their axes. These boxes feel like GW wants us to play apocalypse with ~500 infantry models on the board. And why arent they all battalions, like GW says ? Do they dont know the difference between battalion, spearhead, outrider, vanguard ?

Definitely agree with this. No one is excited about buying 30 Intercessors.

I mean someone surely needs to update their CSM mainlines with the superior looking CSM and when they can sell you aswell on their stock on gakky oldschool CSM bikers before they also bring out a completely overhauled version the better.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

The boxes arent bad, they miss the point of being APOC starters. They are fine when you are about to start a new army for 40k, but not for APOC.

Some of them are good for starting 40k sure. I don't think the Space Marine one is particularly though. If you want to take a lot of troops for thematic reasons then cool, but it's a bit dull and pretty low powered. Of course the SM Start Collecting is no better...

If only there were loads of other box sets that were great for starting Primaris Marines... I'd fight Tooth And Claw for a chance to take a Battleforce into the Dark Imperium... Something Shadowspear...
Seriously though, yeah, more variety would have been nice in them. I'm actually happy to get the bikes in the Chaos set, with Bolter Discipline I think they might be kinda fun. Could have done with a squad of something else than all vanilla CSM but I figure a box of Havocs and some Assault Cannon barrels will go a long way. (tad miffed they've lost all the god-specific icons though)

The SM box should have been a Tactical squad, a Terminator squad, two Razorbacks, a Land Raider Crusader and a Stormtalon.
