I was literally thinking as I watched some episodes "I bet that guy on dakka Excom chimes in with loads of plot holes"
Did you pick holes in the film the Goonies? Or Big Trouble in little China or Back to the Future? They're good old feel good films and ST is a homage to them.
Dont. Overthink. It.

Well, I'm glad to be at the forefront of your mind, my love, but I'm not "a guy".
Yeah, the BttF franchise is absolutely stuffed full of really obvious plot-holes, icky moments ("let's hire that guy who tried to rape you!") and overt racism. I haven't seen BtILC, ever, and haven't seen The Goonies since I was about ten or so.
It isn't 'overthinking'. It's just 'thinking about it, for like ten seconds'.

Wait. I thought every poster on Dakka was male?
I haven't seen BtILC
I recommend rectifying that ASAP. Great film.

But that is often the essence of entertainment media. There is a reason most action films are...action films. They're extreme ridiculous scenarios that don't happen in real life because of logic and reason. Hence the need for the good ole 'willing suspension of disbelief'.
Did you see the cuts on John Mcclane's feet in Die Hard? The amount of blood pouring out of his feet would have caused him to pass out within minutes, let along never walk/stand again! We ignore that because it's an action movie where people shrug off bullet wounds "Hey weren't you shot with a rifle in the shoulder?" - "Yeah, but that was easily twenty minutes ago, I'm fine, let's fist fight!"
I can't think of a single action film that isn't full of plot holes you could drive a Mercedes Grosse through...but that's kind of the point.

I am glad they do not needlessly stretch out the seasons to 12+ episodes - the 8 are just fine.
I, too, really like the actress playing Robin - very natural and the scenes with the three of them were a joy to watch, but Erica become a cliche and was actually painful.
It has been slightly pointed out for my main a gripe in the plot, as I can overlook a few, but:

All of which is why I don't watch action movies.
Besides, the point is not that everything you see on a screen must be hyper-realistic, the point is verisimilitude. Not breaking your own rules. Not having a super-secret Soviet base in Hawkins, Indiana, openly broadcasting it's location and directions to it on a totally unencrypted channel.
Not having a character who previously had been depicted as troubled, complex, but ultimately relatable and 'good' turn into a weird mix of Jack Bauer, a twelve year-old boy and Lenny.

I had a thought that sort of circled the same drain as your spoiler, but I'm pretty sure that in S1 we saw the station and aside from a receptionist and a (part time?) deputy, he's basically it.
Also, by that point, I think he is acting more as father and less as cop.

I liked it. Looking forward to the next one. It has a nice mix of sadness, creepiness, ad comedy, plus I dont think you can really overdo the 80s retro kitsch vibe with something like this.

Oh you can - but Stranger Things shows suitable reverence, without heading into Kayesque "Wot wurrr we thinkin'" territory.
Which I like. It's the right mix of reminding my why my childhood was special, whilst reminding us it was pretty bonkers in terms of taste.

So, overall great season, but (and nothing that comes before a "but" really counts), I think that they shot themselves in the foot with the first scene. Before we even meet our characters, we know that the root cause of everything is "Russians with a Portal Gun". Which kind of kills the mystery this season, and without the mystery, it doesn't quite match up to the previous two.

Well, I think the drama was wondering what gak the Russians were going to let into the world.

The first scene irritated me too, but mostly because i) I thought Hank Schrader was in it, but he wasn't; and ii) Netflix subtitled "The Red Army Is The Strongest" as [Russian Choral Music].
Also, Soviets*. They may or may not be Russian. They are definitely Soviet. It's 1986.

Yeah I wasn't to fond of the whole soviet thing, it almost passed the line into full goofy comic-book territory... and Erica was quite grating
Otherwise it was pretty great, plus, no jarring out of place episode like in season 2!

Finally got around to watching it.
Was very enjoyable. (think hop is still alive as recon he jumped into the rift before the machine exploded, anyone else get this vibe?)
Not really sure where they go from there.
The post credit in Siberia seemed very meh.
It was just another demagorgon right ? Or was it supposed to be something new ?

They've obviously set it up to kick off again in Kamchatka - What would be fun is if the Soviets finally manage to open a portal there, El stumbles across 'the American' they're holding while meditating or whatever just as the Soviets shove him through the portal, and the kids and [their science teacher? rogue science guy from series 1?] reopen 'their' portal to go in and find him. Cue entire series of upside-down-world mind-warpery.

Yeah I can see how that could have been Hopper but would not be surprised if it wasn't....
I don't think everyone will go to Kamchatka (formerly confused with Siberia by myself lol). Think the 4th season might feel a bit shoehorned because of this because they will either have to go there or Kamchatka and the soviets will have to come to them.
I guess El will regain her powers and the kid who was passed(Wynona Ryders son) will manage to glimpse the other world in a dream or something. Its plausible the people mind flyer gobbled up have their consciousness still there as well?? I think they will end up going into the other world to search for hopper.
Looking forward to seeing what they do.

Also pretty sure of this but... I'm not sure I want him back.
I really enjoyed this season, far more than I expected to - but did anybody else find the writing for the adults lost its frickin' mind this year?
I had no problem suspending my disbelief for all the Red Dawn stuff, personally, but I struggled badly with believing Joyce or Hopper, and their performances, which were suddenly hammy as all hell. And I used to love them. Thank God for Murray and Alexei.
Hopper's entire thing, every episode, all season, just seemed to be yelling as loud as he could all the time at everyone, and then beating the crap out of somebody. I think they really fatally Flanderised him.
I don't think it's a popular opinion around the internet, but I think they'd be much better off letting him die as a hero than bring him back and have to figure out how to continue him as a character.

I loved it. Surprised no one discussed the Russian Terminator bad guy archetype. They had it right down to an accent. I had Terminator music running through my head whenever he was onscreen.

Third-rate Arnie is beneath mention.
Best we all pretend he didn't happen, like he did with his lessons on picking and then convincingly delivering an accent.
