These are absolutely fantastic, and I'm really glad you're showing greens next to painted minis so we can see the work that goes into them. Such a unified looking band while giving each individual mini so much character. This is what modelling is all about!

Great stuff and very fitting for Mordheim!
Those cloaks look really good.

Could always use the rat ogre as an “infiltrator”
I’m sure skryre can set him up with a grappling hook arm to assist his smaller brethren.

Could even have a smoke generator type thing to assist in them escaping while he stays behind.

Oh god, I’m getting ideas now lol, this is dangerous.

Good conversions are nice like that, and these definitely fit!

Thanks, Everyone!

Here's the first of the Verminkin painted up.

In order to make these guys seem like the bottom rung of the Eshin hierarchy, I decided to convert them all out of Clanrats with very minimal changes to their overall posture and silhouette. Basically, every one got a black cloak and a second hand weapon in his left hand, and that's about it. This one got a nice Katar-style push dagger in his left hand, which turned out rather nicely.

The dagger was made from the sword of a Vampire Counts skeleton, I believe. I wanted to make it look like it was lashed to his hand with bandages, which I made with green stuff.

Since I was just going to drape their cloaks over them without a lot of dynamic movement, I decided to try normal greenstuff capes. They were pretty easy and turned out alright, though the ends of the cloaks by their feet were still far too bendable. I ended up giving them a coat of Mod Podge before painting, which gave it a bit more stiffness, almost on par with a thin piece of plastic.

Great Verminkin. Love those punch-knives.

@youwashock Thanks! After experimenting a lot with the standard Clanrats and their immovable shield arms, I've decided that punch-knives are one of the easier weapon conversions and probably look the best, so there'll probably be more of them on the way.

The second henchman is now finished. I decided to give this guy a sling, since having a whole unit of Verminkin flinging rocks can be pretty handy. Back in the day, Games-Workshop used to sell sling arms for upgrading your models. After modeling a few myself, I wish that I'd invested in a few of them.

The sling turned out pretty well, though it's a bit on the large side. I was mostly concerned with making it solid.

The sling arm is a Clanrat spear arm. I actually left some of the shaft, which runs inside the sling, giving it some structure so that it's not just two thin strips of green stuff sticking up in the air. It's solid enough that I can grab the model by the sling without worrying, so I guess it paid off. Still, not doing a whole unit of these unless I come up with a better method (or track down some of those old GW sling arms).

Thanks, everyone.

Here is Verminkin number three. He's basically the same as the last one, but with a bigger stabber.

You can't really tell, but this guy's actually got slightly lighter colored fur from the other Verminkin. I also like the way his leather helmet turned out.

The sling used the same method as the other one, which, again, was a huge pain, so this guy might be my last slinger for a while. His sword is made from the end of one of the left over spear tips I had after making the slings.

Definitely have to figure out an easier way to make slings...

The Verminkin are looking really good, just as the rest of them!

Have you thought about using aluminium for the slings, for example cut from soda cans? Or wire+greenstuff to make something like this?

Yeah, Aluminium was probably my second choice. Soda cans are a bit tricky, as the interiors are coated with BPA or some other plastic or resin, but something about that thickness would be perfect.

The advantages of aluminium is that I could probably get a much straighter, sharper cut on my leather strips, as aluminium wouldn't squash or stretch. However, fully cured greenstuff is a bit more durable at that size, which was my main goal. It's got enough give that it's not brittle, but it also won't just bend if it gets caught on something or tumbles around in transport. One thing I do like about these conversions is that you can pick them up by the sling without any worry.

I probably won't go the thin wire + greenstuff path for these same reasons, however, I have thought about maybe trying out one with a sling staff like a few of the really old metal Skaven used to have. Otherwise, I'll probably just do more throwing knives/stars and just have them count as slings. Unless, of course, I find a right arm that's easier to work with or I run across a bunch of the old sling arms on eBay.

This warband is really coming together. Skaven is one of the Mordheim warbands I never got around to playing. Hopefully you will be able to game with them soon!

These skaven look amazing! The contrast between the skin and fur is really nice. What colours did you use for the skin?

Thanks, Everyone

@King Thor The skin on most of them is a pretty standard formula: Bugman's Glow, Reikland Fleshshade, Cadian Fleshtone, Kislev Flesh, Flayed One Flesh, going ever more gently as you go lighter. The Sorcerer and Adept are supposed to be the palest of the group, having been in the sickly tunnels beneath Mordheim the longest, so they got a much heavier dose of the lighter colors.

The fur on most of them is also pretty basic: Dryad Bark, Agrax Earthshade, Gorthor Brown, and sometimes a bit of Baneblade Brown.

The most recent slinger with the helmet actually has lighter fur, not that you can tell. His is Mournfang Brown, Skrag Brown and Deathclaw Brown with a hefty bit of shading with Agrax, if I recall.

Anyway here's another Verminkin for the horde. I tried just giving this one two swords, though doing so with the Clanrat shield arm made for a pretty awkward pose.

Yeah, punch daggers definitely work better than full on swords.

One more to go...

I finally managed to get the last of my Verminkin finished up.

This last guy is armed with a push knife and a throwing knife. Of course, only Heroes get to use throwing knives in Mordheim, so it will just count as a sling. It was considerably easier to convert than the slings were, so I might make do this again when I need more Verminkin (which hopefully won't be for a while.

The idea for this one came from the original Mordheim night runners, which featured a number of arms holding throwing knives and shuriken.

As I recall, the knife is a Space Marine knife that I just whittled down to the proper size. The blades on the push knife are from a Dark Eldar spear of some sort, as I recall. It's surprisingly hard to find good symmetrical blades in Warhammer, but this one worked quite nicely. As with my other Verminkin, the body is just a Clanrat with a green stuff cloak.

The push knife came out really well. I also really like how it is easy to tell the clanrats apart from the pose. As always, lovely work!

Here's a shot of the whole batch of Verminkin:

This should be enough for a starting warband. Just need two more batches or so and I'll have enough for the whole campaign!
