I remember warrior priests being too good.

I was a witch hunter myself, but my brother was a warrior priest, who could heal with every blow of the hammer, making him such a beast who would wade into PVP fights without breaking a sweat.

I did my usual in MMORPGs and spread myself way too thin...

I have a witch hunter, a bright wizard, a slayer, an engineer, a chosen, a sorceress, a witch elf, a magus, a disciple of khaine... Pretty much all below level 10.

I played a dwarf just so I could punt enemy players into the lava on the battlegrounds. I have fond memories of waiting for a black orc 8lvls higher than me to charge me on a lava bridge thinking he was going to squish me only for me to punt him straight off the bridge into the lava. After a dozen times he had a minor breakdown in chat, so I did it again.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Ha, had forgotten the old dwarf punt.
Great fun.

I played a dorf priest. It was ok but definitely a slower grind than other classes. IIRC there were no dual specs at the time so you had to level as "holy". I got to about lvl30 and gave up on it.
Think I rerolled an elf with a cat pet thingy for a while and then jumped back into WoW.

Yeah I played a witch hunter and an orc... I forgot. I think the double-choppa guy.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I played that for a while and really saw some good in it.

I really liked the Dwarven Engineer and played that one exclusively.

After a while, though, I couldn't help but to see the same outcome I have with many MMOs...no satisfactory end reward. That's when I realized I really just like non-MMOs.

I'm back!

Definitely fething miss this game. In fact started playing TOTAL WAR WARHAMMER to see if I could get some of the same 'magic' from it. It was fun to be able to be immersed in the Warhammer world via WAR. Gameplay-wise, I definitely miss the PVP stuff from it.

Tier 1-2 RVR and scenarios remain some of the most fun Ive had in any MMO. So close to being a brilliant game.

I remember this as being probably the best MMO I played, honestly - and then I remember WoW basically killing it in the crib with a huge free content update, free respecs, and so on.

The playerbase dried up almost overnight it felt like.

Wasn't quite as simple as WoW having their gak together though. . . I still remember to this day the player base complaining how broken classes like Sorceresses were, while their equivalent class on the other side was rather lame. Update after update, and no "fix" to the issue. When you have a game built very much around PvP, and do not listen when players are saying things like, "if there's three sorcs in the map on oRVR, there's no point in fighting, they are that strong", I guess its no surprise that things dried up fast.

Many of the problems with class balance in general were felt even at the lowest levels of the game, but by end game content, were so pronounced that it lead to a rather dull game experience. As I mentioned above, if there were 3 sorceresses in an oRVR map, basically every single time we saw that, we'd high tail it to another zone that was unlocked and start taking it, rather than even trying to defend the first zone. And honestly, in the open pvp stuff, keep defense was, for me, the absolute best. I loved defending keeps and found it more enjoyable than taking them.

The Death of the Game video I linked suggests the balance issues came from the fact only one or two guys were actually working on the game past a certain point. A lot of Mythic's personnel resources got shifted over to the then unnamed Star Wars MMO project EA's Bioware was developing (later to be known as The Old Republic).

Not really...

A lot of the balance issues came from the fact that they didn't have a great way, beyond the "Does X in PvP/Y in PvE" setup.
The Destruction side of things had a lot of effects that did CC, which coupled incredibly well with the high burst that some of the other classes had.
Order on the other hand didn't have the CC, but had lots of roots/snares/tankiness that didn't synergize with the burst.

It was a big problem with the Shadow Warrior kit as there were some AOE abilities that did bonus damage to snared/rooted enemies, but the roots/snares got incredibly softened for RvR play.

I loved this game. Took some hoop jumping because the Australian and New Zealand copies had a missing file or something so everyone had to download that before it would work.

Loved running around on my witch hunter and this is the only mmo I've played where playing a healer (elf) was actually fun.

Finally got up to the endgame content when my computer went belly up. By the time I finally got a new one, things had changed around and gone to f2p.

I tried getting into this private server but the download isn't working for me. 2 gigs in then drops out.
Seems this game shall merely be a pleasant memory.
