Ha that won't stop GW. Their narrative used to include not using giant mechs because they didn't fit their military philosophy and were a waste of resources. Look how that turned out.
None of the Tau battlesuits reach the Warhound in height, while at the same time still being agile and useful enough to ensure that they can't just done in like they destroyed them.

I feel like a lot of people are speculating under the assumption that GW doesn't drastically change the lore to add something to the game. Nobody can say for sure but it's not outside thr realm of possibility that T'au gains a psyker unit.

While I agree that T'au should remain essentially psyker free, it would be cool if they managed to develop advanced technological weaponry that uses the psychic realm.
Like a weapon that can tear open warp space, travel through it, then appear on the other side of the map... this could allow for some interesting lore, as the T'au's naivety towards the warp and the beings that dwell within could begin to corrupt them or spill out into the battle-field.
I think it would be a neat, unique way to explore the warp through the relatively naive eyes of the T'au... who would be looked upon, by the other, older races like a child playing with fire.

The other issue with Tau Psykers though is they aren't supposed to be even slightly aware chaos exists. At least outside of the Ethereal caste. So that would need addressing.
From what I was reading of the current Tau book, the 4th sphere expansion had some really nasty contact with Chaos, and the survivors were interrogated and the information sent back to the T'au homeworld Ethereals.
That could also become a springboard - those from the 4th sphere might be the spark to Tau starting to develop psychic powers.

Honestly, though Tau as an army really needs something new besides shooting, or it will never change from the riptide meta.
Either psykers or melee, but they need one.

Tau where one of the hardest hit factions from the removal of all the rules complexity. When the game devolves down to a game of move, shoot, melee, and mind bullets then the faction that has historically been only move and shoot becomes really bland. That said 8th's psychic phase is really boring. Even if the Tau somehow got a psychic unit I doubt it really would do much to make the faction any more interesting to play.

flandarz wrote:Two issues with the Nicassar. Firstly: the Tau are explicitly trying to keep the Imperium from finding out about them. Secondly: they are stated to be "unsuited for ground combat", making their use in... well, ground combat not the best idea, even if you weren't trying to keep them a secret.
They could put the Nicassar in suits. That would both give the Tau another auxiliary unit and sate GW's fetish for big suits.
Now as for the secrecy thing - either they can have the suit self destruct to avoid imperial investigation, or GW can just let the cat out of the bag and have the Imperium stumble across them anyway. The Tau can't hide the Nicassar forever, the Imperium is a big organization.
The Nagi seem like less of an issue in those regards, but I feel like it'd be hard to maintain the "we're the good guys" image when you're using mind-controlling worms in combat.
Propaganda does amazing things when it comes to hiding the truth from the general populace. And considering how indoctrinated and rigid Tau society is meant to be, they can probably get away with it.

They aren't big enough that they are under major threats from aircraft like the Imperiums which was the Tau's point to begin with.
