I still don't like the direction we are taking Plasma weapons. The literally invalidate 90 percent of the weapon list. Plasma is better for every single job, hands down. Better anti infantry, horde, vehicle, tank, and super heavy. Nothing else puts out the same reliable damage for the cost.

I suspect the solution then is to increase the cost of Plasma weapons. Personally, since it is good no matter the target, I'd also make it the most expensive option, switching its points cost with each of the respective melta options. I'm not too sure if the cost of hellblasers should go up as well, as they are already fairly pricey.

Either plasma needs to be nerfed slightly or the following

Melta guns need to be better at their effective range (2d6 damage rather than 2d6 and pick the highest)

Flamers (normal and heavy) needs to be far more reliably effective at toasting infantry 3 auto hits + an additional D6 shots per 5 models in a squad (2d6 for 10 etc)

Grav guns should half movement in addition to the current damage - mortal wounds on fliers and skimmers perhaps in addition to normal damage...

Lascannons needs higher guaranteed damage output, 3+D3.

And that's just a selection of imperial/chaos based weapons, the list goes on for imp and chaos and can be hugely expanded for xenos weapons.

Melta forces invuln to reroll invuln and doubles str in melta range. Then a single shot is worthwhile.

They shouldn't be AP-4. Why is everyone elses plasma AP-3 but the super super marines get something better than what the tau or Eldar have?

Doesn't matter much with all the invulns.

thats exactly the problem with high ap weapons being all over the place, it makes units with no invulns unplayable (land raider, predators and most non-elves flyers for example)

GW well knows this, and they gave us the Impulsor with its 4++ save just to outclass rhino and razorback that they don’t want to see anymore on the battlefields.

I think ALL plasma should be Gets Hot or bust. Make Melta the safe Anti-tank weapon, and Plasma should be dangerous but deadly.

But melta isn't anti-anything. It sucks at its job.
Correction: it's just point sink. If melta was simply bumped up to AP-5 (and turned into 'you're gonna need invul against this weapon' weapon) people may bat an eye at it.

I wish they would have given melta the roll 2d6 pick highest damage regardless of range rule all the time and if you are half range it's D3+3 for damage.
