Note I said "maximum" and "theoretical", not "optimal" and "practical". Yes, you can optimise the game while following the rules to the letter and only need a single die, but that is not what I was asking.

And the theoretical maximum is 1, which is what you asked. Need to be more precise with your wording if you want a useful answer.

Having said that, if you really want to roll a lot of dice, the Death Company example can be improved upon if you're playing against Black Legion because BA get a stratagem that effectively gives them DttFE on 4+ against Black Legion, meaning you effectively increase your attack pool by more than 66% with Lemartes close by.
If you fast roll a Boltgun, you need at least 2 dice. Fast rolling is part of the rules and requires you to have multiple dice, thus you need more than 1.

2 is bigger than 1. Yes, you can choose to not fast roll, but that wasn't the question I was asking. You not understanding the question doesn't make the question flawed. "Maximum" is not the same as "at most".

When a game theoretically could involve rolling 100+ dice for one roll it needs to briskly go in the bin as a pathetic joke.
If it theoretically involves rolling 1000+ dice... Just shoot the writers. They clearly have no idea what they're doing.

Fast rolling is an optional rule, and not *required*. Question as Written, you only require a maximum of one die.

Anything else is a question as intended as response. I only answer questions online, never in person, so I am an expert on this subject.

I revise my answer, the game can be played online, using dice simulators. The correct answer to the question is “0” dice. QAW is king.

Maybe the question should have been more specific.

That's a bold claim. I'm sure this line of logic couldn't be used elsewhere, say, the YMDC forums.

And, again, I didn't ask for "at most", I asked for "maximum". These are not synonymous. "At most" means to find the minimum number of dice by using the rules to engineer a situation with the least amount of dice. "Maximum" means to find the maximum number of dice by using the rules to engineer a situation with the most amount of dice. That includes using "optional" rules (as if all rules aren't optional because you are opting to play the game in the first place). I am sorry if you failed to understand the question.

Still, I am glad I live in everyone's head rent free as they scramble to try and "gotcha" on the flimsiest of pretences and still fail while doing it.

Where does it say that?

Your question was answered, if not in the way you anticipated. I would suggest you use that as a learning experience.

Moving on.
