I haven't had any trouble with the USPS. We knew when we moved here that we wouldn't be able to get mail at the house so we pay for a PO Box yearly. I do wish mail would come to the house but it's not happening.
I don't care for Smartpost at all it adds 3 to 5 days for delivery, which is frustrating when tracking puts a package with in 30 minuets drive. You might say well don't use that service. And I wouldn't if more online shopping let me choose who the shipping company would be.
As I understand it the SUPS got screwed over on 06'. I'm sure that's part of the problem.
As far as packages that don't fit, I can't understand why they didn't leave you a slip and just take it back if you weren't there to receive the package. Probably a form of laziness, which actually sounds like stuffing a package into a box it wont fit into creates more work not less. Very unlike a postal worker...
My largest issue with receiving packages is that some online stores, like Amazon, decide they cannot ship to me at all. most of the time the problem with the address is they/it thinks I am not in the US. Super weird. I put my physical address as well as my Pobox in for shipping because I never know how a package will be shipped. No idea what about that is confusing to Amazon, who I have the most trouble with.
Super annoying.

I'm thinking a karate chop was less work than getting out a pen and their note booklet.

I just heard back from the USPS. They have absolutely no idea where my package is or how to find it. As my package went directly from the port to their 3rd party shipper, and USPS itself never had custody they claim no responsibility and are washing their hands of it.
Meanwhile, the seller claims that their shipping insurance ended when it reached US hands. Looks like I'm going to be eating the cost of all those FW Custodes I ordered.
I can't believe there isn't some more accountability here.

Unfortunate byproduct of the way the industry has been allowed to be structured. Packages go through multiple networks before they reach you. Pretty easy for the parties involved to point fingers, and just straight up lose the package and have zero idea how to find it. It's possible you might be able to get a new set shipped if you contact the retailer? I've never dealt with FW. I've had people send me replacement items for lost products in the past, or refund me.
I lost a package earlier this year with the virus thing was just kicking off. Tracking says it's still in Greenville. Part of me is treating it as an experiment to see if it ever shows up

EDIT: Ok, I'm going to open it back up, let's keep it on topic about missing packages and delivery frustration, lets avoid talk of politics
On topic, I too have a bone to pick with USPS, they say they delivered a book last thursday to my mailbox, but ah...if they did it certainly wasn't my mailbox. I have a claim in, but am not expecting much.
It's unfortunate the ban on politics, and discussion of the USPS without discussing the politics of the organization is basically worthless. There is a TON of information related to the topic that we're not allowed to discuss. Shame really.

Well then mayhaps it is a political topic after all, and therefore off-limits?

I don't really find that very funny. But I'd expect that from how unprofessional the mods on this site are.

Indeed
It'd be nice to be able to talk politics, but even in this thread it started to get rancorous and generate a fair number of alerts quite quickly, hence my earlier gentle reminder. Feel free to talk about frustrations with missing books or late deliveries of mini's or the like, but otherwise there are venues that are better suited to it.

Politics sometimes intercepts other parts of life. Ever since you guys got your panties in a bunch and decided to ban free think here, I've noticed that the same fights that existed in those threads have spun off into the other topics. The difference is that instead of allowing people to channel their anger and passion into the political topic, they now bitch and moan about the cost of their totally luxury hobby instead.
In the case of the USPS it's important to note that service suffers from governmental policies designed to damage the service as a whole in the interest of private mail carrier companies, chiefly UPS, DHL and FedEx.
If we're not allowed to discuss that, than any discussion of the issues is going to be factually incorrect, in the case that many will just assume the service as a whole is simply bad due to lack of work ethic, which, is demonstrably false.

I made a pretty long post explaining that while trying to dance around the specific like.. actors in that set of circumstances, but suffice it to say I did not dance well enough and that post is gone. Which is fine, I get it's a fraught topic and the political threads ruined everything and that was - unbelievably enough - in a time when things were less toxic - but this whole thread is basically arms-length political bait to begin with, and if we're not allowed to at least nibble around the hook, maybe this could be locked and OP sent to complain on Facebook or whatever.
How much finely-targeted discussion can the community really generate around some guy's box getting lost?

Pretty much that, especially considering the OP's proclivities and a stated desire to hurt the post office from a certain political figure. This was political from the get go and should have been nuked from orbit.
