selling off an army because they're broken for an edition is kind of a bit silly if you ask me
It was not due to that. Well before now. Last marine army i owned was maybe deathwing in 5th ed.
I just have had zero interest starting now as they are so broken it's boring. Why buy boring army?
Well slight correction. I have sons of horus for 30k.
I saw them in your gallery, gorgous job on the painting BTW

I've got a Deathwatch collection primarily based on models I got from Deathwatch: Overkill and Space Hulk, combined with a couple of kits I bought to play Deathwatch in Kill Team.

Mine's technically 1-10%, as I have a box of old marines in a dusty corner somewhere. Recently stripped all the metal models, planning to make an old-school marine army with all heavy minis.

Like 10% Grey Knights cause I started collecting Imperial armies as a combined Witch Hunter army. Whenever I consider selling stuff they're always first on the chopping block but cause they're painted I've never actually sold them.

I put 51-75% as a rough guess.
Marines of one stripe or another make up over half of my total armies, but they're also generally the largest ones too. Most of my other armies are around 30-50 PL, give or take, but most of my Marine armies are in the battle company size. Purely on that metric, I'd say they earn their spot in that bracket.

In terms of points or model count, I'd guess around 30%, as I have a pretty sizable ultramarines army that's infantry heavy. It's almost hard not to collect a space marine army!

Approx 20%
About 7k CSM
2k Daemons
1.8k tyranids
2k Grey Knights
500pt Custodes (new additions)
1k Necrons
So majority is still CSM and when I say CSM I am talking all flavours (could break that down into Death Guard, Black Legion, Thousand Sons, World Eaters etc etc).

Lets assume Space Marines are loyalist chapters, including Grey Knights, and Deathwatch.
I'd be interested to know about Chaos Space Marines too, but let's just try loyalists for now.
Edit: I don't think we need too much precision, but for extra credit, find number-of-models percentage and points-value/power-level percentage and combine the two. A rough aggregation of models and table top value.
So....
I play IG, SoB, Space Wolves, Grey Knights, and Custodes in order of size, so loyalist marines do form a sizable part of my collection, and marine-like armies like three quarters of it.
In points, I'd guess they form maybe a third of it.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

I've got a Grey Knights army, so I'm not sure how much that counts or not.
If we're talking more typical marines, I don't actually play them, never have, but I actually own a couple Land Raiders, two or three loyalist Dreadnoughts, assorted various Terminators, a thunderfire cannon, a grip of random characters, and a two or three squads worth of basic old school tac marines. They just accumulated over time, from various starters and random single pickups and whatnot

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Committed Chaos Cult Marine
|
I assumed due to this being the 40k General Discussion we are limiting to our 40k collection. I figure that at least 1/3 my collection is loyalist space marines. Space marines are number 2 of 3 in terms of full armies. I still have another 40 Firstborn that sometimes get used for Kill Team plus the Space Hulk Blood Angels. My space marine army lost the lead as my fastest growing army to my Genestealer Cult which finally became a full army with the release of their Start Collecting. My largest army is my first army: Chaos Space Marines. My CSM collection shrunk as I upgraded to the new sculpts.
My Chaos Space Marine army is largely complete. I might someday pick up the new Sorcerer, Dark Apostle and some more Chaos Terminators, but it is perfectly fine where it is at for me. For my Genestealer Cult I want to double the number of bikes since they are meant to be Rusted Claw. I also want to pick up another truck/rockgrinder if for no other reason that to complete a brigade detachment that I am one heavy support unit away from. My space marines are the most likely to continue to expand, just not as fast, as I generally like the Primaris models. The teasers of the as yet unreleased marine stuff is largely the first time I didn't want one of everything shown. In fact, I am thinking of just picking up the Tech Marine, a Gladiator, Heavy Intercessors, Eradicators and some Assault Intercessors. And the Assault Intercessors are probably going to be kit bashed into Intercessor Sgts with melee options, Stalker Bolt Rifle Intercessors and a Primaris Lt with Auto Bolt Rifle since the kit comes with power fists and thunder hammers so I don't have to track down bits myself.
The spoiler has a fairly accurate photo of my Primaris army only missing a few things that aren't painted well enough to blend in. I also have a photo of the high water mark of my Chaos Space Marines. My Genestealer Cult are definitely missing 2 Ridge Runners and maybe some Acolytes/Neophytes. It was take several month ago before their last visit to the work table.

For the first 5 years in the hobby I resisted with passion getting space marines. Then 2 and a half years ago I saw someone else's green imperial fists, and now my Raptors army is at least a fifth of my collection, if not more. Mostly unpainted because I have far more tactical marines than I could ever field.

Hard to figure out due to the number of unpainted stuff I have.
But I have
Space wolf army
Salamanders army
Small Blood angels force
Half painted
13th company wulfen army
Unpainted
1st ed.apocalypse space marine company box (was to be a crusading marine force made up of lots of chapters)
But I've also got
Eldar
Tau
Orks
Tyranids
Imperial guard
Ad mech (pre modern all conversion and bits stuff I never finished)
Chaos marines
In varying quantities.
So somewhere between a quarter to a half?

The very first 40k mini I bought was a single (painted) DA tac marine from a bits bin at a local game store in a town I was visiting while a child. I still have him.
Other than that, I think I might have ten tacs, a couple terminators, and a captain from part of the 4th(?) edition starter I got as part of a trade.
Lots of Orks and Tyranids, though. I even ended up with more Chaos marines than loyalists, and I don't play them either (more trades).
