Have to enter this one. Last time I entered a GW lottery back when I did my first Warhammer Fantasy purchase I won the store painted Wood Elf army at the release of 7th edition. Had decided to start Dark Elves and bought a box of the basic warrior unit and walked away with an entire Wood Elf army. Getting a painted army at about 4000 points was quite nice for a newbie teen. Have a friend who when he was like 14 or something won a raffle at the same store that gave him 1 minute to pick as many boxes (sadly not blisters) off the shelves that he could fit in one of those large black plastic bags.
Nice with a contest but a bit cheap compared to the above prices considering its only 2 winners in the whole world it isn't much.

It's a fun thing but those saying the exclusions are weird are right.
I mean, from my reading this wouldn't have included Indomitus, Dominion or Octarius, the big mass-produced but technically "limited" boxes that GW gives out like candy to reviewers/YouTubers etc.
But then maybe it will include whatever next year's equivalent is (Heresy box?) but they're just covering themselves by giving the option not to include things that are too limited.

Too much interlap? Dominion, warrior, elite, harbinger...lots of same stuff.
Don't see why discount boxes being removed is that odd. It's not new product as such. Just discount box for other items.

But... it would include 40k recruit, elite and command edition, the equivalent of Dominion, the soon to be released Mini Octarius (which may actually be released in 2022)...
So whilst it would miss out on some sculpts from the limited boxes, the non limited boxes and all versions of it (if any are to be released that is - probably a good indicator 10th edition is not coming next year btw) would give you a sizeable amount of models to work with.

No, it only includes the biggest box of these releases series, not all of them.

Compare to a decent promotion, perhaps?
One in each country, at least?

Having to turn a year's worth of boxes upside down for Aus/NZ customers sounds like an awful lot of work, to be fair.
Imagine how gutted you'd feel if you spent a fortune just to get extra tickets*, and then someone gets it from the "freebie" entry.
*More money than sense, clearly.

That's the nature of the competition. You can try and increase your odds as much as you want, but only one ticket is needed to win.

And much like "real" lottery, unless you spend truly extraordinary amounts, the extra tickets don't improve your chances much.

As others have said, i much prefer exclusive minis promotion than a lottery where your chance.to win are.pretty much nil. But hey, it's better than nothing

My quota of GW contest luck has been used up years ago. Back when Dreadfleet came out, my local store had a raffle where purchases (as well as launch-day in store gaming and painting activities) gained you tickets. I bought a couple of Dark Eldar kits, got one ticket, and won the grand prize, which was the store's old demo copy of Space Hulk.

Wouldn't an American who wins this have to pay tax on it? Or is that the reason for the alternate entry method?

I’m guessing the value would be large enough it might have to show up on tax forms.
I think the alternate entry is to get around gambling laws. If it’s a “game of skill” instead of a “game of chance” it’s OK.

That's a happy ending.
I thought the punchline was going to be that your 'luck' won you a copy of Dreadfleet.

They mention the excluded regions being due to local laws. That could mean that this sort of contest is just not allowed, or it requires a license that is prohibitively expensive for a one-off promotion, or just that they weren't able to secure the relevant license in time for the promotion to start.

The NSW fee is a total of $393
Hardly "prohibitive" .
Truth is, they've got no localisation and don't give a crap/CBF.

You can still enter the free draw but cannot participate in the purchase part as “pay to play” isn’t legal in Ireland without a lotteries licence

... Which would suggest that the issue where NSW is concerned is probably one of the other two options I mentioned.
The million dollar Covid lottery had similar issues, being initially not open to three states until their licence were approved. Delays happen.

Quite likely.
If you ever watch those american game shows where they give cars away among other high priced prizes, a good portion of those get sold at a loss to pay the taxes of the value of the prize. Unless ypu have a few thousand in your bank account laying around for such eventualities.
I hear that there are a few car lots near the studio for The Price Is Right that gets a large bulk of their stock from this game show, at significantly cheaper than what it costs from the manufacturer.
So, what you won behind curtain #3 is actually debt, and not a new car.
But heaven forbid Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos have to pay any taxes. We should all feel blessed that the taxes the working poor pay, goes towards subsidizing their businesses for the honor of their parasitic presences.
