Surpised no one has said grots for pawns.

grots are so terrible nobody even thinks about them in the army anymore, seriously its probably the worst unit in the game, a 2 point model moved to 5 points and actually made worse than they were in the last codex.

related to the topic though trying to think how to do it with knights other than fielding them on a novelty sized chess board

10000 points 7000
6000

No, just low ranking. Could be replaced by wyches or wracks.

As long as the bases of the models are white and black the models themselves can be whatever colors.

I think Scourges are more suited to knights; in chess, knights can hop over other pieces, kinda like flying.

I'm surprised there isn't a GW licensed Chess game

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

A lot of people have been making their biggest units king, I felt like the big beatstick needs to be queen

I prefer the king be the ranking officer (captain, lord, autarch) while the queen is a high level psycher (librarian, sorcerer, farseer)

Sure, the king is nominally in charge, but the queen is the one rearranging reality to suit their whims and tapping into literal cosmic power.

Doesn’t fit with every faction, but a good structure.
