Well given the price of the Banshees, £32.50, that seems like a reasonable estimation for the Rangers.

Everybody balked at the Banshee pricing when they were released, and then we all rationalized it with the (flimsy) justification that that was because Banshees are elite (not really in rules right now, mind you, but not the point). Rangers are not elites, they are troops and remain troops. That price point for a 5 model troop unit that doesn't do a whole heck of a lot (now, and likely still with the new rules) is pretty absurd.

Yeah, I agree it sucks, and the only reason I purchased a box of Banshees is for the following reasons...

1) Covid hit and it was the only kit available to buy at the time.
2) Wayland not only offered 20% discount but also free p&p.
3) I cashed in loyalty points that were to soon to expire.
4) There was just enough spare parts to green-stuff a sixth banshee.

...and I got them for £24, which was close enough to the £23 I was willing to spend on them. I would like to get another box but unless its part of an Eldar discount set, it ain't happening. I love banshees as much as Warhammer itself, but there is a limit.

Only thing keeping me positive is that the sprues appear to be the full kits, rather than push fit monopose ones.

That, I suppose is a reasonable rationalism to pay the extra.

Still saving on RRP, and i'll still pick up a box because I am a sucker... but I will buy from a 3rd party at discount for sure.

GW price rises have never been in line with inflation.

It's like when people try and argue, "Oh but what about the designers, factory and warehouse space?" as if that hasn't already been calculated and taken off when they announce their enormous profits.

I'm sorry but yes it is. Anything less than blind indignant rage worthy of Khorne is unacceptable here.

Geez. The prices keep going up. For a while the sculpts were also betting better, or at least more intricate. But this eldar refresh isn't even that good. Well... I guess it's better that I won't be tempted to get any of it.

Why is anyone acting surprised by the £125? All of these sorts of boxes have been that price for a while now. It would have been more surprising had it been lower.

Most have been £105 haven't they? The exception being Indomitus/Dominion and this year's Battleforces.

Hell the AoS boxset that came out just last week was £105.

Honestly, as a chaos player without a fiend model in my collection, this feels a bargain as a lot of people will want the eldar half and not want to buy the whole box.

For a chaos player the market will flood with cheaper components from this box or with easy recoup of their respective halves cost.

Or to elaborate, a not-tiny hq, elite squad and a vehicle for ~£50 doesn't sound so bad.

Sorry, let me rephrase. All the new stuff has come at £125. The repack boxes with 1 or 2 new hero sculpts are at the £105.

Maybe you rationalized it, I sure as hell didn't. Banshee pricing is nuts. For that price there should be 10 models in that box and it's still at overpriced GW rates. I can wait until they show up in a Christmas box full of other Eldar stuff I want as well.

I considered buying this box. Combined with the Chaos troops from Shadowspear I'd have a nice little CSM force. But for that price I could pick up the Necron Worldscour Legion box, that's full of Necron units I don't already have for a huge discount.

It's not worth chasing the new shiny. Even the FOMO-laden Sisters Launch Box showed up as a Combat Patrol box, plus a Rhino, for way, way less than the launch box. Maybe the new eldar stuff won't show up in this coming year's Christmas battleforces, but probably the year after. GW loves their end of year sales spikes, even if it's less overall profit.

Maybe the new plastics will drive the old metals/finecast kits to eBay for cheap for a while. I'll pick up those, they still stand up as beautiful minis.

And I think I will grab a Worldscour Legion box. As soon a GW thinks it can get away with it they'll start jacking all the prices due to 'high inflation', never mind their massive margins.

Yea not much of a discount.

£125 is $210, generally.

Forgefiend ($75), 5 CSM ($40, because Chosen), Character ($30)
Bikes ($50), Fancy Character ($35), 5 Squishies ($30)

So maybe $50 saved. Oh well. I guess I'm out of the running for two boxes.

Note sure on USD prices, but this was the breakdown from Auspex Tactics with expected prices based on similar recent releases:
23.50 Autarch
31.50 Rangers
36.50 Shroudrunners
23.50 Warpsmith
31.50 Chosen
45.00 Forgefiend
=£191.50 expected RRP
£125 = 35% discount

Obviously most of that discount comes from the solo kits being so expensive. I'm not sure any previous battlebox with new models has gone higher than 35% discount.

If I could drop £45 Forgefiend and just get the new models at £80, I would be swiping the card already. At £125 this doesn't seem like particularly good value regardless of how much the models would cost separately.

Luckily, this box combines the 3 least exciting new Eldar releases for me. I am happy to ignore them and spend the £125 on one of the Christmas Battleforces instead or save them up for Guardians and Warlocks.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

Same. For a lot of reasons, but especially that one, most folks I know of rejected the banshees (and BotP, just in general), Eldar 5 man boxes are way out of line, even with GW's already crazy pricing.
Anyone 'rationalizing' it needs to stop.

I notice the new box doesn't advertise how many Citadel miniatures are in the box on the front. They dropped that from Fury of the Deep as well, while it was still present a couple of months ago on the Black Templars box. I reckon their prices have finally reached the point where they think it'll hurt sales of boxes with lower model count.

I still remember when Dire Avengers came in boxes of 10 and War Walkers could be had in boxes of 3. Good times.

I'm fairly certain the mixed-faction "battle boxes" haven't ever done this; just checked on what's to hand and it's not on Forgebane or Prophecy of the Wolf either.

Time to start hunting down old models, then ones and twos to add in the new stuff.

I guess allowances have gone up for kids since I started this game.

Combine that with the Ork fiasco, and you don't see a very strong future for subsequent releases. Our local has had sales almost creep to a stand still. Kits sit up there gathering dust, now.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Piety And Pain is the same, no count. I do find it odd how Citadel advertise the number of models on the box. It can work both way getting a lot of small models and it seems impressive, getting one big one and it has the reverse effect. It would be more informative (though far less intuitive) to include the plastic weight as in reality you may be getting better value out of the few big models. Kind of like how supermarkets always tell you price per kg/ml to allow for true comparisons at different pack sizes/offers.

Yah. Little rich for my blood. I’m still planning on getting all the Eldar in the box, but will be getting them separately. If the deal was a little better, I might have sprung for it. Figure the Chaos might eventually get paint, and I want all the shiny stuff NOW.

But at this price, I can get the 3 kits I want now, or ~4 kits later. And I know there are more things I want down the pipe.

3 now or 4 at higher price later? Doesn't match up. You seriously expect separate releaes to be cheaper than discount box whose point is to be cheaper than separate releases? Lol.

I’m discounting the chaos. I don’t know anyone local who wants to split the box, and don’t do ebay.

From my (Eldar) point of view, this box is spending ~$200 for 3 kits I want. That same money will get me ~4 kits later.

If this box was $150-$175ish, I would have grabbed it, despite not caring about the chaos half. I’d pay a little bit extra for getting it now, rather than in 4-8 months, and might eventually do something with the chaos.

I’ll buy the Chaos half off you if you can get off your ass and go to the post office.

So don't get chaos. Real price i62.5 for eldar or 125 for double eldar. If you can write to internet you have all the requirements to get it for real price.

No point complaining about price if you CHOOSE to pay 125 for eldar when anybody can get it for half if they choose.

125 for one set of eldar is personal choice for those who want to pay double real price

If you only want one half, the discount has to be good enough or the hassle of ebaying the other half isn't worth messing around with.

At £125, probably better to just wait for the inevitable new army box that will replace the currently excellent value start collecting box.

Its really not much hassle moving it on ebay in reality, it's easy enough to subsidise your own purchase. We also know from leaks none of the units in this box for eldar, appear in the combat patrol.
