Fething really? Ugh. Worthless for gaming with other figure lines and terrain. Way too big even for Crisis Protocol, too small to mix with 1/35 or 54mm terrain and vehicles. There goes a huge amount of the excitement I had. Game had better be really good as a stand alone product. Man, what a stupid design decision! Kills every cross-sale they could have had

Might as well use actual G.I. Joe action figures for the game!

Also, is the RPG just re-skinned D&D 5e? By that I mean a d20, level based game? I am interested BUT I have different RPG preferences in mechanics than re-skinned 5e.

It sure seems that way, ever since after '86 and the terrible GI Joe cartoon movie.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the RPG background is - cartoon, Hama series, Sigma 6, whatever?

It never ends well

I think it's agnostic enough to fit which ever era you prefer, but art style is very "modern IDW", which is pretty 80's homagey anyway.

I miss the old maps(the first set from like 2003/2004) for the Star Wars blind pull pre-painted game specifically because they were dual sided with a set of squares for the actual game then a side of the same map with squares to use the 3 3/4 Star Wars figures as the "miniatures".

I keep seeing everyone saying the models are 54mm, but the preorder on BBTS.com states they're 28mm scale for a 1-inch grid.

Am I dumb and looking at different product/thread?

Miniaturemarket.com also has it stated as 28mm as a preorder. Renegade Studios website also says 28mm, so I think the video is incorrect, or had special 2 ups to paint.

If those models are on 25mm bases (to fit in a 1"grid) they're considerably taller than 28mm.

Those are for the rpg, while the boardgame figures are larger, no? Different product?

Interesting, and also awesome news. The video linked earlier was for the Mission Critical board game, not the RPG minis, so yeah either the video was wrong and the minis were larger pre-production prototype minis, or the minis for the board game are larger than the RPG minis for some reason. Hopefully just large prototypes.

Man, it's a dangerous time to be the wallet of an 80s/90s kid, I just got the delivery notification for the TMNT boardgame and now GI Joe is back on the to-buy list. I wonder if any of my old Transformers scale well with 28mm...

I assume Transformers fans already know about Bot Wars.

Yeah, but when you have the choice between mostly generic characters and the actual characters from the IP, it really doesn't compare.

Also, pretty sure Bot Wars has GIJoe, Cobra, and M.A.S.K. as factions.

Dino Riders & Universal Soldier are basically the not-Soviet Faction. Atlantican faction is originally drawn from the Atlanticans from a specific episode of Transformers, they're in Rise of the Democracy too. Also a Kaiju-themed faction, and a kinda-Rock Lords-ish faction.

How big are the figures?

Not too interested in the game but a hoard of Cobras might be cool.

glad you posted, I saw the preview but was completely unaware of the KS, but feth me, they ARE 44mm models afterall. So torn between nostalgia & wanting proper GI Joe minis for decades, but at such an awful off-scale :(

Says the game is fully compatable with the Power Rangers Guardian System games, are they worth playing on their own? Are they that same 44mm scale? (edit: yeah, just checked and they're the same scale) My nostalgia for Power Rangers is significantly lower than GI Joe, but I do like it when games have those kind of compatability options

Might be better off just waiting for the 28mm RPG figs to release, but if this game is Coop then it should play solo, which is the only way I'll likely ever play it

If someone could get around to doing a Transformers boardgame or miniatures game I'd be all over it (G1, not Bayverse please!)

I know that Botwar initially started as an attempt to do a TF game but they couldn't get the license, so it became its own thing... ah, what could have been...

Failing that, just someone coming up with TF minis STL files would be great. I could easily knock up some rules based off Robotech RPG Tactics to make it work.

It really, really is, and it's the deciding factor: no pledge from me. Gameplay looks entirely mediocre, but I would have bought it simply for the figs if they were at least close in scale. Such a waste.

Oh well, the RPG minis will be out soon, maybe I'll use those for Zombicide heroes or 5 Parsecs or something

Isn’t Dust 44mm?

A few years back there was a Transformers game, using plasticard cutouts you assembled - with the ability to switch between bot and vehicle mode. Can’t remember if it was Bayverse, G1 or a mix. Didn’t pick it up because it looked too gimmicky. Can’t remember who made it - I’m guessing the same company that did the Pirates punchcard game, but I’m drawing a blank on who that was.

WizKids currently produces some G1 transformer models, in bot form - I picked up Starscream, for example. Just need some rules. I think Osprey makes some generic future rules that work…

It never ends well

The RPG is out. the book is pretty tight, and the "Make your own Operator" stuff is pretty awesome.

Can't wait for some sourcebooks, if they ever show up.

YMMV, but the Painting video's were what pushed me away from the "Mini's", and leads to using figures, or the Marauder figures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmuMiI6sTKE "Duke"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLJFjCBV0kE "Dr Mindbender"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHeYuROCnVM " Cover Girl"

Look at the size of these minis... o.o

Transformers 3D Battle-Card Game was produced by Wizards of the Coast(imagine that), Pirates was by WizKids. It had no unifying aesthetic, being a mix of Bayverse, Alternators, G1, Unicron Trilogy, Beast Wars, and the Classics toyline. It was... not good.

Having played the RPG, I very much like it. However, I must advise you - if you're doing anything with guns, put points in Targeting! I'm having to switch to Might/Finesse for my Renegade.

Pshaw... everyone knows GI Joe guns can only hit B.A.T.S. and vehicles (with any pilot/driver safely ejecting). Now nets and non-lethal weapons... that's where the real money's at!

Same big dumb minis as Power Rangers, which were surprisingly un detailed for the size : /

The game was not great for 2 players, maybe it gets better with more...

Except in the Larry Hama comics.

I was genuinely shocked when I realized these army soldiers were shooting real bullets at real people in the comic.

For me that's the weird thing, I had the grim and gritty version of GI Joe before the sanitized version.
