Wulfen. I love the background and the rules are good enough to make me want to run some (even with the loss of CORE in 9th). But the scuplts look very weird and derpy. I guess I wanted something more like a beefed up version of the old 13th Company Wulfen from way back. The current ones have some poses that just look downright funny.

The core designs are still strong, but Warp Spiders and Swooping Hawks are showing their age real bad with the quality (and material) of their sculpts. Dire Avengers, despite being plastic, definitely suffer from being an early 2000's box and the quality of the mould has certainly degraded over time. Comparing them to the new Guardians, or even things like Kabalite Warriors from just a few years ahead, is depressing.
And all 3 of these units are the best things in the Codex.

Yeah, I'm with you here. I feel like the proportions are off as the squig looks far too small to pull all of that crap. The designer should have just stopped to put more and more stuff on that rig, a simple Harpoon hatch or Psyker throne would have been enough.
Or just make it a proper huge Squiggoth to carry all the stuff instead.
Agree, this was totally a missed chance to make plastic squiggoth version.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Lol, I listed them in the other thread. Love the models, hate the rules. Do you really like the current rules for wulfen? They're terrible. I run them sometimes because they're among my favorite models but they used to be the number one hitters in our army and now they're like... number ten, at most? They also used to be the toughest models in the army, now they're basically regular infantries. Probably even worse since AoC.

I think the price drop has made them interesting. You can get a lot of S10 Thunder Hammer attacks for 140 points on a unit with an 8" move. Sure they are a glass-cannon but with the ability to fight on death, they will make a mess of anything they touch. They are also a useful counter to other glass-cannon units that rely on striking first to survive. Howling Banshees are quite popular at the moment and Wulfen will mess them up very badly.

Well, I kind of get him - the drukhari rules look great and their vehicles and pain engines are totally rad. Pale, flimsy goth elves in leather gear though? Not my taste at all.
Er... you realise ccs also rejected both the Raider and Ravager, right?
Also, you say 'pale, flimsy elves' but he also rejected the Grotesque - which looks like Bane from Batman if he injected himself with all of the venom.
(And ccs is perfectly entitled to his opinion, of course, I was just struggling to find the common threads between the models he rejected.)

Yes, I agree. They're not an awful choice but... they're not Wulfen anymore. Not the guys who made me collect and play a SW army at least.
That's why I don't like the rules, I preferred having much more expensive dudes that were actually very durable and real close combat aces than the cheap-ish elite infantry they turned into.
But I guess if you like the old Wulfen, who were basically slightly better power armour dudes, you could certainly be satisfied enough with their current profile.

The official paint scheme isn't doing it any favours either, all that white makes it look like a fisher price children's toy. I've seen it done in rusty scrap metal paint that improves it a bit, but there's still no getting away from how .... chunky? it looks.

It's one of the few models that actually looked worse to me when I saw it in person. The weird white scheme also didn't do the other squigs any favors, but what really killed it for me was the rig itself, not the squig.

Ok, don't take me seriously. WTF do I care? It's a personal taste thing & I'm not required to share the same opinion as the herd. I still won't like, buy, own, or use, the models I listed.....
I do agree that the 2010 revamp improved much of the DE range. It just didn't improve the models I listed enough for my tastes.

I think the worst offenders for the armies I collect are:
Admech - electro priests. I really dislike their proportions
Space marines- any of main line flyers are pretty uninspiring and overly heavy in the nose (the forge world fire raptor and xiphon are contenders for coolest models I don't yet own; centurions (I don't think this needs expanding upon); primaris tanks. I prefer my marine tanks on tracks so I'll be fielding a kratos and a sicaran or two to accompany my marines.
Necrons- doomsday arks. I really like the ghost ark but the alternative build from the kit feels contrived and something of an after thought.
Thousand sons- the current spawn models. I didn't like the kit when it came out and I dislike it more and more. It suffers from being an early "modern" plastic kit with poor detailing and it doesn't convey the madness and variety you see in the art work. I'm still in the process of converting a unit but would never use the stock models.

I get that the spawn are pretty goofy looking, but I must say the kit itself is great, you get enough bits for your whole Chaos collection and you get enough options to go full tentacles, full eyes, full spike and everything in between, you have heads for every god and then some. I think once the spawn kit gets replaced we'll miss it because from that point on there'll only be 4 different spawn left with how GWs kits are developping lately. For what it tries to be the kit is great, if you want to have more god specific models as usual look for 3rd party producers as GW only provides some kind of undivided.

For me, Slaanesh fits this to a tee.
I like a lot of their rules (especially in AoS) and general army tactics.
However, I find the entire range absolutely hideous to look at (and not in a good way), almost without exception.

I agree, select pieces are ok and can make good additions to other kits. But the models built as intended were never great, in my opinion. Personally if there were 4 great looking spawn models I'd get them and probably not need any more spawn.
