I think it’s largely an informed assumption. After all, with the Black Carapace pre-existing, why wouldn’t you incorporate its tech into already bulky and slowing armour?

Yes TDA interfaces with the Black carapace you dont need fluff to discern that.

TDA was made originally from enviorment hazzard suits, yes, but it went on mass production for Space mariens during the great crusade, so it only makes reasonable sense that it would interface with their black carapace considering it was intended to be used with marines. Plus you also see multiple instances of marines in fluff having cables connecting their head to their suit as well.

To many unpainted models to count.

Not doubting you, you are way more up to date on the fluff especially from the HH, is there a source for that?

The Black Carapace has been a thing for a really long time and it's well established that non-Astartes PA wearers don't have the same abilities. It still provides the same level of protection but to an Astartes, PA acts as a second skin which is why they can generally move as if they weren't wearing it in the first place.

I was reading in the new HH “legends” types units download that TDA that we have in 40k was a emergency botch job really, that was news to me, that gak was always supposed to be the best stuff around.

I wouldn't describe it as a botch job, it just wasn't as good as Tartaros or Cataphractii but considering both of those patterns had higher material costs it made sense to make cheaper armour. It's the same reason Thunderhawks replaced Stormbirds, the former was cheaper and performed a similar role to the latter.

yeah an aweful lot of the "modern" space marine arsenal is like that IIRC.

I belvie the Deimos pattern rhino chassis was the better one, but the Mars one was simpiler to repair and maintain and thus won out in the end yeah?

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

"Without the benefit of a black capace, a Space Marine's armour is relatively useless."

I agree with Gert that 1+1=2 but here you have it as well - black carapace is needed for any powered Astartes armour.

To me the Chaos Space Marines needed to be characterised as a threat reaching back to the Imperium's past, a threat which had refused to lie down and become part of history. This is in part why the gods of Chaos are less pivotal in Codex Chaos; we felt that the motivations of Chaos Space Marines should remain their own, no matter how debased and vile. Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose.

Depends which mark of Deimos but generally speaking yes.
The Mars pattern has worse environmental and secondary systems but is much easier to build and has superior in-battle recovery systems. The Deimos was easier to repair and had a slightly higher top speed.
