Is it resin and metal together? I thought it was a conversion at first.

Still miffed that I was to slow to finish my entry last month, so will attempt two minis in this one. I'm gonna paint two of the best vampire hunters of the realms. They may be able to deal with all that monsters everyone else puts up

Blade and... who's the chap on the left? Looking forward to both, whoever it is! Vampire hunters are cool as.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to paint this month. I have a choice between my Dark Reaper wraithlord conversion, skeletons from the 1995 Warhammer Quest expansion Catacombs of Terror... or if I'm really pushed for time, just some bats and spiders from the original Warhammer Quest box. I'm worried I might end up being forced into the last option if I continue to have limited hobby time. I want to get something done, though... :/

Mostly, on my phone.

Ok, so, spooky gak! I'm not saying they're my final five but ...

They don't come much spookier than the Black Flame. Whilst black 🔥 is obviously... Challenging, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Hopefully, the electric blue pops enough.

Continuing with our demonic overlords, Lord Balam, in all his glory.

It's a cool sculpt, I just wish he were bigger...

I feel like he should've been 40mm + base size, like the giant monsters, more Kriegaffe sized (with whom he shares an almost identical pose).

Gruagach, the twisted daoine sidhe

I was lucky enough to have a bit of input on this fig in game.

I'm eternally grateful that they based the sculpt on my favourite panel from the comic.

And Nimuë, Queen of Blood.

Damn, what a sculpt. I wasn't initially sure but I loved painting her. The hair colour was a bit out of left field, but I've tried to lean into a bit into Mignola aesthetic, and it's how he highlights her hair, so who am I to argue?

Aiming to replicate the colours on her dragon form...

Yeah.

I'm down with that.

The wing membranes stressed me out.

Side by side

And, all together.

More Hellboy to follow. Got a monster groove going on

Yup, it's a hybrid resin/metal model.

I decided that the stumpy little legs looked dumb, so I sculpted some extra tentacles to take their place:

"Sculpted" is a strong word, as I really just rolled some Kneadatite tubes and then smushed them in place. I'll have to add a flying base since the thing is no longer ambulatory.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

You would know best, of course, but seeing that picture I figured it was supposed to stand on and move with the lower tentacles. I never even thought to questioned that.

Seeing Shub without her hooves made me flinch, but then I remembered it's just an avatar and those can change as needed.

The updated tentacles look good. They match the metal sculpts quite well. I'm very curious how you'll paint the black goat with a thousand young.

It's the fella from the Cursed City box set called Jelsen Darrock (that just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it?).

Okay, I finally have an entry...

00's Morhdeim Zombie versus 80's Empire Knight. Which OOP model will survive and what will be left of them?!

I will likely do up a little display base diorama for them to fight on.

I liked the legs. It gave it personality. Reminded me of the flood infection form. Seeing that thing come waddling at you like a power rangers villain would be horrifying. It's mouths gnashing as it's stumbles at you whipping and lashing out around it.

Hi there,
My entry for this month:

The spider girl will take part. For the succubus I am not sure.

I tried to prime it today but no paint realy sticks to it.
I gave it a good wash in soapy water with a brush, but still not going well.

So we will see.

@SirOllox: Are those figures from Super Dungeon Explore or something? The chibi look makes me think of that. I really like them and look forward to seeing them painted!

And as for my entry for this month, I'm phoning it in a bit and doing up some Dead of Dunharrow from Middle-Earth:

These will be super simple to get looking spooky; basically just a contrast layer with some drybrushes on top. Plus basing, which again won't be hard.

Edit: I suppose I should clarify, the guy who's already got some color on him will not be part of the entry; he's the one I used as a test model a while back. I'll pick five from among the others and submit those as my entry.

More Hellboy nonsense: Crickets!

Nasty jumpy wee horde mutants. Horrid things

Varvara. Yes, scary evil girl demon.

Fun to do, though many, many layers.

Hammerhead. He's a really nasty big bad, with a great classic mythos vibe. Not the formless, nameless kind, but rather the ancient, unknowable monster.

And the Wendigo!

He is actually an infected agent, so has great mechanics in game - you really don't want to kill him, despite the fact he'll try to rip you apart and eat you. Jolly nice.

And a quick group shot.

All in all, satisfactory progress.

The succubus is directly a miniature for super dungeon explore.
For the spider girl I am not quiet sure for what game it is, I bought it for reduced price at the FLGS, but it is from the same company and it has rule cards for super dungeon explore, too.... so yes 😁

Okay, I'm not feeling my original submission (again). I'm withdrawing the Knight vs Zombie in favor of some Japanese Gaki (aka Hungry Ghosts):

I'm having an Asian horror-themed Oubliette solo mission playtest around Halloween and I needed some more monsters. Gaki are basically Japanese ghouls with distended bellies. These slightly converted Plaguebearers fit the bill pretty well!

I finished two really awesome ghosts (an Onryo and Ochimusha) earlier this week but I can't enter those because I never took "before" pictures

I might enter another model or two to make the submission a full 5

WIP:

Elder Sister is done with her basecoats and washes. Cleanup and details next. Middle Sister just got her base of Grey Seer and will start getting her contrast layers next. The “little” sister is still waiting to start. Hope I can get all 3 done this month.

Love the original Hive Tyrant and your paint job is great, Nev!

I bought one when they were new, despite never playing Tyranids. I sold it off a while ago but I recently got my hands on another one that needs a lashwhip.

Finished my Gaki. Here's a place holder photo:

I'm pondering two more models to enter, so we'll see if the Gaki get any potential friends (or adversaries!)

Finished - the Edenborn, Slaaneshi cultist offspring (behind a spoiler, cuz they've got their tops off):

Spoiler:

Pretty messy paint job I'll admit, but they're tiny little things, they live in the wilderness without adequate shower facilities, and I'm not a very good painter; still, I think they're okay from regular tabletop viewing distance; I do think the hair turned out not bad, so far as my usual efforts with white go. These are the children of the Bringers of Wonder's cultists, born insane and raised by lesser daemons because they're the only things that can get near them until they're old enough to control their homicidal tendencies; they wind up believing they're daemons themselves, and pre-battle they cut themselves open to 'purify' themselves of their human vital organs - which surprisingly works (sometimes), letting them charge into the fray sustained by the power of Slaanesh alone. Of course they're still just unarmoured humans so even autoguns mow them down in droves, never mind boltgun fire, but they're living their best lives (up to that point), and that's what's really important, or something along those lines. Happy Halloween.

Mostly, on my phone.

Loads of really cool stuff going on!
More Hellboy, entirely unexpected I'm sure

The Crooked Man. Very challenging to paint as he is a figure entirely in drawn and inked in black in the comics.

I actually used a lot of khaki and tan to try to achieve the shading.

Demonic Servants

And Demonic Underlings

These might replace imps as my new least-favourite enemy

And Ogdru-hem mutants, which I'm rather pleased with.

These guys remind me of something out of a Bosch painting so I tried a different strategy with the highlights.

I also approached the flesh in a very different way, using Vallejo dark fleshtone as a starting point. Definitely something I'm going to think about for character models in future.
So I'm surprisingly on track with painting the Big Box of Doom in a month. I've got the Queen's Champion left from the enemies and then it's onto the heroes! There's also Drinking with Skeletons, the display piece, to tackle, but that's a big beast. Still - end in sight, and then I have to pick out 5!

All my old nids are from second hand lots. I kinda wanted to play them back in the day, but there was no way I was going to start a 3rd army that was horde based.

I do have another, unbuilt, original tyrant. Unfortunately, no spare lash whip. Looking at the parts, a plastic one from the warrior kit is roughly the same size. I can get you detailed measurements if you want.

Finished the elder sister, and the middle sister is at the details/touchup stage. Just put the base Grey Seer down on the little sister, she’ll start getting contrast layers once that dries. Month is half dawn, but making good progress.

Starting to feel the time pressure to have these things painted and posted.

I’ve gotten both of my minis mostly done. Just some tidy up detail and basing still to go on Granny Weasley.

Looking forward to seeing that Tyrant Trio coming together. I’ve got lots of time for a walk down Gribbley Lane.

There’s a lot of very interesting creatures in the mix for this month actually. I expect it’ll be hard to stand out from the crowd.

I have finished the mimics. Man, contrasts can certainly speed things up. Now I just need to figure out how to make a mimic hunt puzzle.

Would a group of mimics be called a gallery?

I need to finish the mouths, figure out how to base her, and probably add some slime coming from all the little holes.
