The usual clientele of TMP strikes me as actually being the basement dwelling mouth breathing nerds as depicted in 70s-80s movies. Portent was nice enough while it was Portent, then when the hardware died the original admin moved on and his mods set up Warseer and played ego games, basically banning anyone who became more popular than them, so it eventually eroded into an anti-meritocracy where only unhelpful dumbasses were allowed to post until there was no signal left in the noise.

I miss the old Death of the Squats and Varingyr threads from Portent. So much fun, fan-made content.

Sadly, I think it is gone the way of the dodo bird.
Yes it's gone now.
The site had problems and was down for a while which is the only reason I signed up here. The B&C didn't have Xenos sub forums at that time.
I really enjoyed my time on Da WAAAAGH.

The Reaper forums are still strong. They're mostly focused on painting and miniatures, but they are very happy to discuss all minis, not just Reaper ones.
The Board Game Geek forums are also very strong- especially considering that they have a bajillion sub-forums. The forums for individual games vary. If the game's fans have some other place to congregate, they won't necessarily be on BGG.

Haven't seen it mentioned, but it was a sad day when the Aussie forum WargamerAU winked out of existence, taking many fine painting logs with it.

For example, trying to find examples of the pre-Heresy armies people were making before the actual 30k ruleset existed, based on mostly the "Visions of Heresy" art books, is not very easy at all these days. Does anyone else remember when making "true-scale" marines out of the then-current Chaos Warriors was the style of the times? Or when "the dip" showed up and outraged miniatures painters worldwide? Warseer had a great IG tank/vehicle thread going with some great conversions. I think I downloaded a lot of the pics, but still....being able to ask how someone did something was a great asset. fightingtigersofveda...while not a forum, is still around. The owner has switched to Grimdark rules though....

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase. |

Indeed.
They were replaced by https://oztabletopgaming.com/ - but it's a much quieter place than WargamerAU used to be.

My experience was great on Portent and on Warseer up until the AOS launch. A TON of bad faith posters caused many problems and several posters were report bait and got banned for behaviors parallel to people reporting them, INCLUDING me. It's a shame that a community gets woodshedded like that, but they kind of did it to themselves.
The highlight was that the posters causing all the problems and the overpruning wound up moving on or getting banned themselves.

The list of past memories on countless cool forums threads is immense... Many already mentioned here but one that I really missed was Warpshadow (Tyranids).
Also all Rackham Confrontation orgs was fun until company folded...
So much content forever lost. Blogs took over for a while before dying to Facebook.
Facebook is so bad its unbelievable.

Not a forum, but if you want a grandaddy wargaming site that is still chock full of goodness, Necromundicon still exists as part of Ironhands.com
Sean Patten still updates every once in a long while and I've yet to see a gallery that didn't provide something cool and original to look at.
I love Ironhands, he makes some absolutely gorgeous terrain setups and I always loved reading the campaign reports interspersed with great photo dioramas.

About 15 years ago, my regular forum of choice was Librarium Online. Looks like it still exists, but it's totally dead, which is rather sad to see. Then, if that still didn't satisfy my forum itch, a bit of Warseer and B&C.

Warseer's lengthy crash was what killed it. If a site goes down for months, most people will move on.
I enjoyed my time there. The Warseer community helped me design and then improve Conqueror: Fields of Victory.
Yeah, there were issues, but I will always remember the site fondly because of the people who gave me such enthusiastic and helpful feedback.

The first forums I visited was portent.net. I thought it was cool when Andy Chambers and many of the White Dwarf staff were on there spit balling ideas and starting rumors. I also remember when Dakka was a Canadian Website around 1996/7 ish. I remember GW engaging the community with their forums.

I also recall a pretty cool Not-Black Library fan forum that had some amazing stories on it. I wish I could recall what it was called.
I also recall two other niche ones. One for Inquisitor and the name escapes me. The other was Da Gargant Ownerz Klub. Fun times for niche projects.

Sadly, most of the Bolthole is decayed to the point you can't even find them on archive.org in a functional way.

I know khemri died ages ago, as did a lot of the WHFB faction based forums. 40kterra forums too.
While it's still up, the Khemri forum changed name/url address overtime as we didn't kept the original name (some people were paying for the name and we just abandoned that). At some point, the free forum platform it was on died and was forcefully transferred over to the "new" platform (tapatalk group). This really killed what little remained of the activity on it. For the record, I was the last staff member keeping it running for most of 8th edition all the way till the end. I never went into AOS so I kinda let it go too from then on (still keeping an eye on it), but I still managed to restore some assets after the change (having done a lot of them myself in the first place) so it at least looks a bit like it's former self, visually
If I knew how to set up forums and stuff on a proper platform, I would have ported it over instead of what we ended up with.
See the link here if you feel adventurous and want to explore a tomb like a real explorer! https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/khemri/
Otherwise I think what little was left of the community has been absorbed into the vampire forum.
Just felt the need the share little history here
