Middenheim.

Heim I understand to be German for Town, possibly City. I don’t speak it, don’t sue me.

Midden? A Midden is where you put the refuse. Including poop.

Pooptown. Middenheim is Pooptown.
Considering how locations and towns were generally named in the middle ages, and considering Middenheim, I don't find the name particularly inappropriate.

Aberdeen literally play in a stadium that translates to "hill of dung". Plus, you have my personal favourite IRL- Hillhillhill Hill.

Games Workshop Delenda Est.

Lion El'Jonson is also a goofy one, especially for a Primarch.

Let's raise a glass to GW, who single-handedly saved an obscure Anglo-Catholic poet - Lionel Johnson - from utter obscurity.

And not just him, also his work: "The Dark Angel." Any guesses on what the "forbidden secret" is?

The orc stuff I can let pass because it's meant to be silly.

How about that firebrand theological reformer of The Empire, Luthor Huss. Really reached for that one, didn't they?

Want a better way to do fantasy/historical miniatures battles?  Try Conqueror: Fields of Victory.

Do you like Star Wars but find the prequels and sequels disappointing?  Man of Destiny is the book series for you.

The shame is all of those would be better as just the second word, as would far too many units in game.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I wouldn't call it goofy, but it's definitely borrowed from history:

I know where the name comes from, and I'm sorry to say -- still goofy as f***.

Re: Nurgle names: Yep, they get pretty ridiculous. Daemonic/Chaos names in general often sound like they were created by random name generators from a bunch of prefixes and suffixes. "So this Chaos lord will be called... (activates Khornate name generator) Goreskull Slaughterblade!"

Some of the Ork vehicle names are pretty silly, but in a good way because they're Orky. My personal favorite is Rukkatrukk Squigbuggy, but Boomdakka Snazzwagon is a close second.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

GW have always had a soft spot for bad puns, this peaked with the WFB 5th edition Lizardmen book...

Nothing has come close to that.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

Well in the old Warhammer Fantasy Orcs and Goblins Army book the history does reference an Orc named Dork.

So yes there was a WAAAGH Dork at some point in the old world.

The original Realms of Chaos daemonic names were created that way. The True Names used a different table so you could end up with gibberish strings of letters (which I guess makes sense for daemonic True Names).

There is no good place to go with Iron Hand of the Iron Hands.

What makes it worse to me is he was one of the later primarchs that GW named and wrote up, with only Leman Russ appearing in the Rogue Trader book itself (and only as a 'commander' of the space wolves, not a Primarch, which didn't exist yet).

The names (like Corvus Corax) seemed to get worse as they went along, with less thought and more obviously bad jokes.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Well, there were Cathay and Nippon "pun" names. Though these were more racist than goofy, so, yeah I guess lizards were better in that regard.

I bet CA didn't made Nippon into TW III faction yet despite huge popularity of Japan because they are not sure how to proceed with that baggage (and whiny screams from certain crowd that will inevitably happen if Nippon gets the modernization and upgrade Cathay did)...

Which always makes me laugh when people take the HH books so seriously, I mean, look at the names of the main protagonists, it’s just so silly.
