Yeah, that just looks like a cheap promotional gimmick. I was hoping that maybe they'd show off some of the classic art from the same era of the first couple of WHFB editions (or at least the parts that the modern GW corporate sensibilities would let them use). For a company that claimed dominion over the shape of arrows and roman numerals in a lawsuit in addition to the gobs of great art they actually created, that's a remarkable unimaginative set of stamps.

What do you think licensed stamps are?

Collectible art with a practical purpose. I don't think those pics classify as a good example of the latter which is sad because GW has some genuinely great art in its portfolio that IMO is much better than just pics that at best qualify as forgettable product box pics. If they were going to use product pics, I'd have preferred classic codex/armybook covers.

Collectible licensed stamps exist for Post Offices to make money by selling them. They are literally marketing gimmicks.

Agreed. You're ignoring the other key words though that I used to justify my dislike of them namely cheap, unimaginative, and forgettable. Obviously, you're free to disagree with that characterization of the images they chose to use but it was objectively a choice on GW's part and I feel they could have done better.

Hasbro is primarily a company that sells toys, but they were smart enough that the Transformers set last year was commissioned original art by artists from the original UK comic and with blurb by the British writers, rather than just photos of the toys.

I had mixed feelings over the Iron Maiden stamps. Yes, the band is more than the artwork but the 'in concert' photos for part of the release weren't as enjoyable for me as the artwork set.
The same appears to be taking place here. One set is photos of the product with a second set being the artwork that inspires or is inspired by the product. Hopefully, like the Iron Maiden set and the Marvel heroes stamps from a couple if years back, collectors versions of the set will offer some blurb and background about the worldx of Warhammer.

That's because they were celebrating the British contribution to the franchise, which was the comics, not the toys. Shame they didn't go so far as to give us a stamp with Impactor on it, though.

I don't have any experience with the Iron Maiden stamps but I obviously understand your thoughts on it. I'd say in general I'd prefer art or album covers except for the rare exception of a concert that was famous/iconic for a group like Elvis' Hawaii comeback, Woodstock, or a concert that served as the backdrop on a famous music video (like GNR's Paradise City).

The only stamps I've ever owned was a cool Batman set my wife got me. Between these and the Iron Maiden ones just out, I'm in danger of beginning another new hobby...
