My gaming group is kind of tired of the constant changes. We've shifted over to playing Crusade since it feels like we can have meaningful games with a sense of progression rather than playing something that feels like it punishes you for not chasing a specific meta.

I'm not interested in buying more expensive books, and I'm not too big on the restrictions placed on the armies. I like the idea of small boarding party lists, but the way things are, not enough to open my wallet (and no, I'm not downloading them on the net). Anyone else here just going to stick with the regular rules?

I plan on ignoring a significant portion of it. 60x44 Space Hulk isn't appealing to me. They already make it hard enough to get variety on the board, that isn't going to make it easier.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Yup, am in pretty much the same boat as the OP. Boarding parties sounds interesting - but it's yet another book to buy and things are tight these days. Plus there's the supposed looming 10th edition that may end up invalidating it...

How would a new edition invalidate what is essentially specialized terrain rules?

Let's say the new edition does away with "actions".
How do you open/close hatches then?

Seeing codexes have uses for actions and 10e is unlikely to invalidate those unlikely.

Bigger worry is 10e core book containing same rules.

Largely, yes, but I've been mostly ignoring any of the supplementary books since 9th came out. Might have a play around with the new Detachment, just for fun like.

Literally ignoring it all, dataslates included, as they're Matched Play specific, and playing Open War games.

Just read the Goons review- nothing I need in AoO.

Boarding actions - My group already did this in our last Crusade using homebrew rules - but I'll check out the GW rules and maybe adopt some of them. I already have lots of tiles from Space Hulk, so I don't need the new terrain.

The group voted to use the Arks of Omen detachment and balance dataslate changes in the next Crusade.

No intention of buying any of the books.

Personally I plan on using the new rules, but I haven't bought a GW rules book in all of 9th except for the occasional codex, and even for those I didn't buy them. Like for Custodes, I have a whole Shadowkeepers army, but I didn't bother getting the dex for them this edition. I hate how you buy a book and it isn't even accurate within a month of buying it anymore, so I just use online sources until GW gets their act together and actually create a solid online source of rules like the rest of 2023 companies.

Alongside this, as others have said, 10th is on the horizon and I was burned back in 7th edition when I bought the beautiful Chaos Legions book which came out and then was invalidated within a few months with 8th showing up. That book was amazing...

As for boarding actions, I am excited for what those could bring and I like how its a mid point in between kill teams and full 40k.

I've ignored all of it (psychic sleeping included). No point in starting now.

It doesn't mesh well with how space hulks (or even normal ships) are described in-universe, and I don't need rules for... walls. Or not bringing certain unit types (with a giant list of exceptions).

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Ah, but these aren't just any walls. These are Moeniatus Imperatoriatus Walls (TM, Copyright). Now with 70% more wall per wall!

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Please report to your nearest GW store for attitude readjustment. Take your wallet.

I got it for the Boarding Action rules. Doubt I'll pick up any of the subsequent books, because all it'll do is add stratagems back into a game that doesn't need them.

At this point I would rather pay $5 a month for the most updated 40k rules rather than buying a ridiculous amount of books that get changed or amended before they even release and then become unusable in two years. It's become beyond ridiculous.
