Interesting idea, and a most feasible one.
Though for the most part, software to change thought processes would mostly steer away entirely from such matters of the flesh as gender and phases of age, and aim for the inhuman purity of cold machine thought. Rigid logic, cleansed of fleshy bumps in thought.
And if anyone gets offended one way or another from an innocent discussion and brainstorming like this, they will have to grow a thicker skin. It is not a healthy milieu where people trip around on eggshells, afraid of offending each other.
As to Black Library examples from my own readings, most memorable Mechanicum and Adeptus Mechanicus characters that stood out were Tech-Priestesses, aside from the cheating Explorator in
Legacy by Matthew Farrer. And usually they deviated from expected Mechanicus conduct, with one being vain (
Mechanicum), another being a jolly excentric (
Ciaphas Cain) and a third quipping a joke (
Priests of Mars).
There have been plenty of well-written Mechanicus characters that showcased the spirit of the setting and represented the Adeptus Mechanicus excellently. But the nature of the Mechanicus makes it easier to sympathize with the excentric deviants over the proper personnel.
Also, memnyatta's Skitarius comic is of relevance here:
