Yes for sure. But remember that the Adeptus Mechanicus cares little for matters of the flesh.

While elite warriors in monastic monk and nun orders respectively pluck archaic and mediaeval strings for the setting, the mechanistic callousness of the Mechanicus pluck on cold, impersonal and industrial strings. Men, women and children are all but numbers of units, resources to be spent for the great machine.

The flesh is weak. Only the machine is eternal.

I feel the most important take away from this that the Mechanicum and Adeptus Mechanicus are so far beyond our current understanding of Self that our current gender language and notions are entirely irrelevant.

To the point none of the adherents particularly care how the next expresses or identifies in such realms. And I’d suspect within that framework you’ll have more than a few adherents who’ve not just identified outside their birth gender, but at least tried to use software to change their thought process in case there’s some hidden wisdom to be found by being different genders at different times whilst trying to understand the same issue.

Given I’ve probably upset someone with this? If you are trans, dear reader, you have my genuine apologies. Please PM me so I can learn from this. If you’re not trans and you feel somehow lesser in your gender from my words? Yeah that’s a you problem.

Interesting idea, and a most feasible one.

Though for the most part, software to change thought processes would mostly steer away entirely from such matters of the flesh as gender and phases of age, and aim for the inhuman purity of cold machine thought. Rigid logic, cleansed of fleshy bumps in thought.

And if anyone gets offended one way or another from an innocent discussion and brainstorming like this, they will have to grow a thicker skin. It is not a healthy milieu where people trip around on eggshells, afraid of offending each other.

As to Black Library examples from my own readings, most memorable Mechanicum and Adeptus Mechanicus characters that stood out were Tech-Priestesses, aside from the cheating Explorator in Legacy by Matthew Farrer. And usually they deviated from expected Mechanicus conduct, with one being vain (Mechanicum), another being a jolly excentric (Ciaphas Cain) and a third quipping a joke (Priests of Mars).

There have been plenty of well-written Mechanicus characters that showcased the spirit of the setting and represented the Adeptus Mechanicus excellently. But the nature of the Mechanicus makes it easier to sympathize with the excentric deviants over the proper personnel.

Also, memnyatta's Skitarius comic is of relevance here:
