I voted for the Lion. Even though it's just another Marine, it's a very good one, and has loads of character. But on reflection I probably didn't give enough consideration to the other contenders, like the Freeguild Marshal or some of the excellent new Tyranid models. They should at least have split this into WH40k, AoS and 'other game systems'.

It would be nice if they had categories, like they do w/ the Golden Deamon. Best individual, best squad, best giant thing. And then all in open round.

Because there were a lot of great things this last year that will not get the time in the spotlight because they are in the shadow of the giant centerpiece modles.

I second this proposal.

Voted for the lancer, but could have gone for any Cerastus kit, not so much because the model is the best, but its the most fun I've had with kits in years

The one affiliated with Chaos, of course!

Same here. It's a shame that the winner will be picked from a narrow group of models. You'd think GW would want to get a bit of corroborating market research out of this and get people's impressions on a wider variety of things, not just which centerpiece appeals the most.

Of the two, I'm sure it would be the Lion. Angron just looks derpy to me. I can't get past that hideous face.

Gotta say I keep seeing some weird takes on what makes the "model of the year".

Not so much on here but I see a lot of "it's a primarch so it gets my vote" - yes they're good sculpts, but just the fact they're a primarch shouldn't be enough, likewise I see the cerastus minis come up a lot with the reason people couldn't get a resin one. That doesn't make it a good sculpt as such, it is well designed but visually etc it already existed almost 1:1 for a decade.

Well, it is favorite miniature of the year, not necessarily best sculpt or most unique. Favorites are favorites for all sorts of reasons. My vote went to the LI russes despite them being just a russ but smaller precisely because smol russes make me smile.

You realise in 2021 this model came second place

In general its light hearted - and a lot of people will often vote for models in "their army/ies" because that's what they pay attention too the most and what they think of in the 30seconds they vote in on the list. They don't go hunting for images of every release or double checking the release chart and such; and about 30seconds after they vote they probably think of another half dozen deserving models from "other factions" that might warrant a win.

LOL. Name ONE year anything space marine won. It will be big, expensive chaos crap (see almost all previous years) that wasn't even in top 3 of chaos models that year, never mind Warhammer models in general

Honestly that was probably my favorite character model this year. But yeah, I wish there were categories too, Ionus, Tahlia, Lictor, Berserkers and Kroxigors all deserve a win in their own bracket...

Come to think of it, they were pretty good models. Categories is a great idea.

I know it's a boring choice, but I voted for the new multipart Indomi Termie kit. I think it's just a fantastic kit

These days you need to see the model IRL to see how cool it really is. Cant say I was overly impressed with the Cerastus untill I met one in a game last week.
Really cool model.

Not as cool as the Lion though

Also, honorary mention to the whole Seraphon update.

The new Screamer Killer for me. Some of the photo's looked a little derpy to me at first, but in the flesh, it's a beast. Maybe not a popular opinion, but it got my vote.

As for the winner...?
Call me a cynic, but it will no doubt be some big expensive single model kit, and if the GW bean counters get their vote (or have decided already), it will be one that hasn't yet made enough sales.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

And in a shocking twist, primarchs took the top two spots!

This is a marketing opportunity for the most expensive new kits and nothing more. I will say though that I'm a bit surprised that Farsight came in as high as 3rd and I say that as a formerish Tau player (still have my army but haven't played in multiple editions).
