It looks a lot like an otyugh from D&D to me. Nice work!

I had to google what an otyugh looked like. You're right, it really does look the same!

I've gotten a little bit done on my Tomb Kings bony bois:

Next up will be a drybrush on the bone parts, then the metallics will get blocked in. But the models are coming along nicely in spite of me having to work against a very bad grainy primer job.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Some progress on my entry:

Well, the base anyway. First time using fluro paint!

And how it will sit in situ, though I plan to add more stringy goop.

A buddy in my play group gave me the vespid half of his Hivestorm Killteam box. So, I’ll be painting some of them. Free models, 65 points for a five-bug unit. Sounds pretty frugal to me.

The Deva King himself is done:

I've started his scarf thing, that should be done today. That leaves the plinth and his sword.

Now showing some Deadzone heroes!

Painting total as of 1/31/2024: 16 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I've spent the first third of the month taking a break from painting after December's big project. It's probably time to get some paint on my space dwarf somewhat soonish. Like, maybe a little in the coming days. Wouldn't want to exert myself after all.

Decided to take it a bit easier this month and paint something a lot smaller than my last couple of entries.
Taking part with one of my D&D minis that I painted during a "wine 'n paint" evening with a bunch of friends.

Here's the proof from my hobby desk while I was prepping a bunch of minis for the session. Actually the only picture I found with it still unpainted

It is there!

A Deep Gnome Adventurer who got fed up working in the mines and left to explore the world with a pickaxe in hand. All the gear is pretty basic and cheap, so I guess it fits the theme!
I actually changed the base after taking the first pictures. Maybe he changed the scenery.

Finished pictures: Deep Gnome Adventurer

Really fun project to paint

@Ezki - super cool Gnome. It looks like a tiny mini! You must have needed a magnifying glass to see those details.

Small progress picture for me. Colours blocked in.

Captain Terens of the Storm Lions:

3D Printed marine, MDF offcut base, free mini of the month Tyranid, uhu glue, and actual gravel from garden. Also, first time use fluro paint, which was fun. Not my usual power weapon either, and quite low key osl for me

Lots of ground to cover.

Looks great Ezki and Graven

I'm in the same boat Zambro and youwashock. It took about 2 hours to prime these 18 gaunts, and I still have another 41 waiting to be built. With the month half over, I realize I need to break 5 off from this massive batch paint and speed up the painting of them

Heh. My side projects are going smoother then the main event. Finished 3 gaunts already and almost done with the free mini of the month striking scorpion. FLGS is doing a comp for those, need to get it done this week.

We’ve still got half the month left, so plenty of time to procrastinate.

I tried but I'm not feeling my Squat right now. Or more specifically the only teal I have. I'll probably switch to something else and revisit the Squat once I find and add a pleasing teal and turquoise to my paint collection.

It looks great, especially for the FDM print. Did you use something to smooth the surface and to make the layers less visible?

For once no ambiguity was intended. I'm saving all my double entendre mojo for the impending Emperor's Children release.

I'm not entirely sure what to title this guy. Temple Guardian, maybe? Anyway, he's finished.

Alright, new attempt with a clanker this time. B1s are cheap and cheerful, and this one came in a discount bundle to boot.

Still only one model. Not just on account of the time of month, but I haven't painted any Separist droids before. So I'm still using the month to test a color scheme.

Oh fun! I quite enjoy painting clankers. Ochres and terrain type washes works for me.

I think I mentioned in the vote thread that I'm going with yellow and purple. I have yet to figure out the ratio of factory ocher and heraldic colors. And placement, for that matter. It'll be a nice way to tell squads apart.

Currently I'm thinking of going light on the extra colors for the B1s as the plentiful core of the army and leave fancier color schemes to the more advanced droids.

Alright, I've finally made my choice. This guy has been sitting on my shelf since forever and I think it's one of the coolest models to come out of GW for a while. I figure genestealer cultists are fairly frugal.

My entry this month will be ChibiDarius, the avatar of the author of Eatatau comic. Figure is available for free on Myminifactory, so I think it fits the theme I was planning to make a better proof picture but I forgot and started to paint it, so the proof is like this:

So far almost everything is painted, but Im a little afraid before starting the eyes:

The figure is very small (except the head ) and for me hard to paint, but I think she doesn't look bad.

Been Around the Block

Hey folks

I haven't painted anything for a few months so thought I would get back into the swing of things with this wee guy I had already sitting around primed and ready to paint.

Just a simple weapon swap and he's transformed into a little grim reaper /necromancer with a night haunt scythe

He's frugal in height / cost / and a minor character being upgraded to a main.

Trimmed a piece of frame for the wooden sign post and had some bits left from the three mini giants spearhead box for the base.

Just snooping around watching all the progress here… great stuff as always.

That guardian fig is quite unnerving to me for some reason JoshinJapan… not sure why…

Anyhoo, it’s quite nice to be a spectator this month for a change lol

I bet it's either the Burt Reynolds moustache or the fact that he's cross-eyed, both of which are consistent features in the Japanese paintings I used for reference.

With this theme it really got me thinking, I thought I'd try to be really Frugal and see what I could make out of mostly left over spure and a few extra bits and pieces.

Tried a few different things but I liked the Grot Cutter when I was putting it together so going for that

Also finally got around to updating the league table (sorry for the delay lots going on in RL)

As a reminder, we’re about 2/3rds of the way through the month, so plan accordingly.

We had a tie vote for this month’s topic, so no vote for February. Topic will be SURPRISE! so start laying your plans.
