The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

I saw it a while ago. I remember it being very visually impressive, but the story was a fairly basic cinderella wish fulfillment one, and the bad guys were just too dumb to live.
Couldn’t tell you any details really. didn’t leave an impression beyond that.

That's my recollection as well - a bit like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Visually stunning films that clearly had both a huge amount spent, but also a really great art direction to them.
However paper thin plots that feel very contrived and just do odd things at odd moments. With Valerian at least its likely cause they took the comic stories, probably stuck several together and then cut more than half the content of that out to make the film.

How odd. I remember wishing for the action scenes in Jupiter Ascending to wrap up quickly because they're such a confused mess and therefore pretty pointless. The movie even outdid Transformers in that regard, and that's quite a feat. Not what I would call great visuals.

Ugh. Transformers films. There's a sea of cringeworthy and annoyances in those movies.... and I haven't even gotten to the giant robots.

Xander from Buffy - when I watched this as a kid I thought "Oh hey, Xander is a nerdy loser like me! I can't wait to see him get some character development and do something cool at some point!" (I mean not in so many words but that was the feeling I had!)
Sadly it just never happens. He remains an unlikeable arse for the entire show and never really undergoes any growth.

Hey, that’s not true at all.
After he’s split into Good and Crap Xander, once merged back to the original, he has a new found confidence, as all the stuff in Good Xander came from him.

Doesn't make him any less annoying.

I just remembered an annoying character that was made worse as the series continued... Ritchie from Highlander.
Oh, no! He died. Wait? He's an immortal too? Oh No!
