I'm in with this guy (proof):

I know nothing about the lore on the army formerly known as squats other than that they are prospector types, so it felt like he fit this month's theme and he was a chance to finally paint something other than kommandos. I read up on Hernkyn Yaegirs and it turns out that they are basically the commandos of Votann meaning two things:
1. He really fits the theme
2. I am still painting kommandos.

I've got him basecoated and am struggling for inspiration. On account of his greatcoat, he's basically drowning in a sea of brown right now and I'm not sure I can add much interest to him. It's kind of a boring sculpt honestly. Would appreciate any input from the community here on what could be done to perk him up a bit.

You could go for some exotic fur.

While the outside of the coat is drab, does it have an interesting liner color?

so buttoned up with the hood on, it’s very camo and blends in. But when more relaxed, you get some bright accents.

In my opinion brown and orange can work well together if you choose the right hues. Think fox fur. That can look pretty lively.

Nehekhara lives! Sort of!

I think I have started down an interesting path with this project and I don't know how it will turn it out. I was looking for some ideas on how to convert the second excavator and I decided to go for some sort of claw thing. Maybe it was because claws are cool or maybe it was because they are currently demolishing the house behind ours and they are using a claw tool to do it.

After a bit of modding and scratch building I came up with this.

Everything was ok so far. Then as I am looking at the claw it seemed familiar. The shape, while basic, kept reminding me of something. And then it hit me (the thought, not the claw).

The claw reminded me of the claws on Baikinmans robot from the tv show Anpanman. The show is a popular kids show here in Japan and I have watched it a fair bit with my niece. This is where my thoughts went a bit sideways. Since the claw is reminiscent of Baikinmans robot maybe I can paint the model using Baikinmans color palette. And if I am painting one model using an Anpanman character as a scheme it only makes sense to paint the other model as an Anpanman character as well. And who better to choose than Baikinmans rival, Anpanman.

So with about 1 week left, my goal is to paint up both models using color schemes based off Anpanman and Baikinman. Sure, why not.

Keep up the work folks! We’ve got about a week left, and for some a couple of those are going to be spent in a food coma or Black Friday knife fights at mall. Plan accordingly!

Reminder that next month is the Open Round.

Coming in at the 11th hour. Thought I would have to miss this month's comp, but tzurk jr was unwell today and is going to be off school tomorrow - hopefully I get a few hours to put some paint down on this guy.

It's a silt strider from TES: III Morrowind, to be used as a falcon/wave serpent in my Ashlander Exodites army. He may not have the fanciest base but it's by far the biggest one of the army...

Just on this page - Mothsniper, those bases are super lively. Love the mixed foliage and produce!

Peterhausenn, I love some inspired mad science. I am keen to see those colourful paint schemes translated to the industrial machinery!

@Gulgog Tuftoof, I second/third the motion for exotic fur. Tiger or snow leopard would add some interest while keeping it relatively low-key, or you could go full Monsters Inc and have him wear a Sully pelt or some other bright alien combo for some definite "pop"
