"The internet" is always going to give you the most cautious answer because no one wants to be liable for bad advice.

The reality is a messy, "no one actually cares but if you want to be absolutely certain you won't end up in a situation where someone decides they can't be a functioning human about it, these are the most official rules on the matter that if followed you should be covered by." It's the endless challenge of writing rules that give you the authority to act on obvious problems but can't technically be written in a way that doesn't accidentally impact things no actually has a problem with without creating loopholes bad actors can exploit.

Just use it as is. I only play 40k and have (looks at collection) 2 40k Land Raiders, 30k LR, and 8 WWI tanks converted with 40k bits to be Land Raiders.

My Converted WWI tanks are almost exactly the right height, about half an inch too narrow, and about 1.5 inches too long and I've never heard a complaint.

I wouldn't have a problem with it and would be disinclined to play with the kind of person who did have a problem with it.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I never said I was against it, etc.
(I'm infact very much on record as saying that I'm not married to GW model wise.
I'm also definitely NOT one of those opposed to using Legends nor any model GW has ever made.)

I told you check with the management of your local GW.
Because....
1) They very well may have marching orders from on-high concerning mixing model lines, using Legends units, using proxies, 3d prints, paint, etc etc etc.
2) And since thats where you said you primarily play? What THEY will allow is really important to understand.

Just posting another old vs. new image.

The original Land Raider is taller than the new version of the Proteus and Spartan too.

If you're planning to go to a major tournament, best to check with the TO ahead of time just to be on the safe side so "That Guy" doesn't try to pull some gak on you.

If it's just for you FLGS. GW sold you a Land Raider, you're playing a Land Raider. Anyone that is so pedantic to pitch a fit over this is probably not someone you want to be playing with anyway.
