I was just wondering about where you got the bases for the interior of your buildings? With the grid? Also, how did you acheive the marble look on them?

Thanks for your comment. So here are your answers Question one: It is no secret that I love the modular movement trays from GW http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440151a&prodId=prod1095472. They are the bases and roofs of all of my buildings. You can cut them to size and they are perfect for bases. The reason is very simple ,they are flat enough to represent a realistic building to street feeling ( large MDF and foam are unrealistic in regards to height that a normal curb would have IMO) as well as being rigid enough not to warp over time.

Question two: The marble effect was very simple. The movement tray was cut to fit the inside of the building and primed black. After the prime coat I carefully painted every other square bleached bone then dry brushed the entire floor with codex gray. After that was dry I laid down a wash of black ink followed by devlin mud. Once that was dry I dry brushed very lightly pure white. It looks pretty cool and I was going to put a gloss varnish down but I think that it would take away from the destroyed feeling of the building. I would leave that up to you. If your building is not destroyed then I would add a light coat of gloss varnish to make it pop. Totally up to the artist in this case.

I hope this helps and thanks again to everyone for their comments and support,

Mike

A bit late but.... I really like the clock work cherub entrance. Not sure about the priest on a stick. Might look better in situ.

Nice bastion...plain and simple STC. works for me.

Keep on showing me nice stuff, to inspire me enough to build my own board.

Thanks and I am glad that I could inspire you to do your gaming terrain. As it were I have also pulled a lot of inspiration from your thread so thanks and keep it up. As for the cherub I agree and am totally in love with that bit Perfect and morbid I love what it did to the archway. It is a bit from warhammer fantasy BTW. I am probably going to nix the skeleton on a stick . It is cool but more for a fantasy style board. I am still going to paint it though and see how it comes out.

Thanks for all your comments and support, keep um coming,
Mike

Just ordered this http://terranscapes.com/pics/Web%20Ready%20Photos/Structures/fountaincomposite.jpg from an amazing company Terranscapes Please go check um out, there are some really cool treats for sale. I am really excited for this one and as I mentioned earlier in this thread I always wanted to do a fountain. The problem was I could never find one that I liked until now.

As soon as the mood strikes I will be hitting the paint bench today, pics to follow.

Thanks for all your comments and support,

I fell in love with the spainish moss I saw another modeler Mike @ Terrenscapes and I had to try it. After fighting with my wife most of the day this is all I got done. Let me know what you think. I am really liking this and want to use it throughout the whole graveyard. I know it is hard to tell how it will look all over the place but I would like your thoughts. Does it look like moss and does it fit the overall feel?

Thanks Guys,

Mike

I agree with whalemusic,

It needs to look wetter, since moss grows only in moist environments

It needs to look weightier, it should hang straight down like wet hair.

The tree needs more lican and stuff on its trunk.

Actually Spanish moss is quite dry on the outside, but the center is very dense and moist.

It may be a trick of the eye but in person without source lighting it does look rather heavy. I do agree with you but how does one achieve weight on a cotton polymer?

HOW? Help me out here . I think that even a heavy inking would wet it ,but look strange check out this link http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.askextension.org/images/spanishmoss.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.askextension.org/questions/381/The%2BSpanish%2Bmoss%2Bin%2Bmy%2Blive%2Boak%2Bseems%2Bto%2Bbe%2Bkilling%2Bthe%2Btree.%2BWhat%2Bcan%2BI%2Bdo%2Bto%2Bget%2Brid%2Bof%2Bit%2Band%2Bsave%2Bthe%2Btree%253F%2B&usg=__Bqq_ue-DkuCccxx0F8hnYixyFEY=&h=730&w=645&sz=200&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=HMr4havo4Q-vqM:&tbnh=171&tbnw=159&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dspanish%2Bmoss%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D617%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=275&vpy=285&dur=643&hovh=239&hovw=211&tx=132&ty=224&ei=VhCtTKyNHobGlQeOwtiDBg&oei=VhCtTKyNHobGlQeOwtiDBg&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0

And what is lican? I used the Google button on the internet machine and all I saw was Lycans! Not sure what you mean by that so if you could clarify that would be great!

THANKS for everything guys You are the reason I love this site. Your feedback is huge to me so please Keep It Coming

For "Spanish Moss", your work is bang-on. That's exactly what that type of moss looks like.

"Moss", as a plant comes in countless varities: Irish moss, Scottish moss, peat moss, green moss, java moss, etc.

And moss lives in humid environments, not wet. There is aquatic moss, slime mold, pond scum and filamentous algae... that thrive in wet conditions.

You either need very heavy clumps (like you have on the left branches of the 1st picture), or very whispy strands hanging down (like a Chinese beard ) in order for it to look good IMO.

I love the look of that Spanish Moss - I'm going to go buy some of that artificial product you're using and use that on my scenery too.

It's a completely different material, but go to a garden centre (or equivalent) and pick up some Reindeer Moss, that stuff is awesome, and comes in a wide variety of colours. It's cheap as you like too.

EDIT:

Oh and also:

Hey Mike. Cheers

Inspire is the right word.....build not quite yet. Abigail and I have been in "discussion" over terrain building . She pointed out our apartment is not that big and I already have two 6'x2' boards under the bed. I pointed out that my board is just two bits of MDF unpainted (its a desert ) and the new board would be two 4'x2' painted boards which would stick together in such a way I'd be able to play in a bay window area, rather than taking over the whole living room (this part was a tiny bit untruthful but I'm good and I can live with it) and still live under the bed. But would look really cool. So we have agreed (told might be a more accurate word) that I might be allowed another board, if I paint some more of the terrain I've got. Its great that I wear the pants in my house! So I'll be painting some of the nice resin GW barricades soon.

As for the tree....I like the whisps of moss much more than the clumps, which look kinda stuck on.

The fountain is very cool. I think teching it up a bit would make it cooler, it is it looks very mordheim at the moment.

Cool stuff

I think that I am going to thin down the final product and I do completely understand what your saying. I think the biggest dilemma is consistency to the moss. Thanks as always for your feedback

I think that I will still use the polymer but thanks for the input. I just fell in love with the overall creepy look that the moss gives and what better place to use it then a graveyard

Also if you are looking for a verdict in the fight between my wife and I, I will give you one guess who won the one But making up is always fun

Thanks for your comments!

I know what your saying. My wife and I are looking for a house now and the game room/ table is on hold until we settle on a house! I don't know if I am more excited to be a home owner or having my own gaming room. And just so you feel better my nick name for my wife is "The Boss"

The fountain will absolutely be given a make over. My next project is going to be a court yard placing the fountain in the middle with benches and statues of "Heros" from years past.

The tree is just a small item in the graveyard but the moss is going to be used everywhere. Thanks for your comments and feedback.

Thanks and Thanks again to all of you guys for your comments . I know that the finished product will look ace and can't wait to have it completed!

Mike

But do you have the episodes... recorded off TV when they first aired... on Betamax?! Oh yes.

I picked up every one through the Constructicons. Sadly, my area never got the all-in-one Devastator, that I would have bought just to have the stat card off the box.

Then they started to get cheap and silly with the Aerobots (...or whatever combining flying tings).

Oh yea... and the fountain is really cool (just to keep this post on topic ). My only criticism is the water streams turn back under just a little bit.
