How many non-super heavy tanks do the Imperial guard have?
Is this in total, as in the amount of tanks they have, or how many TYPES of tanks they have?

Well, I get to host the quiz anyway.
So, clarification. E.G. Each leman russ counts as a different type. so 7 tanks there. The Armageddon pattern basilisk is another type. so 2. (+ Normal)

Types would be unknown, not all types of tanks are documented.
If by theory each forgeworld has its own pattern for each tank they produce. There are about 50 documented forge worlds, so the answer would be very roughly 50 X (Total amount of variants)
There are 18 different track tanks in the Imperial guard codex, I counted 9 tanks on forgeworld.
27 X 52 = 1350 different varients.

Do you mean like chronologically within the 40k universe? Cause then I think it's The First Heretic.

There must be another one. I found the quote from the Lexicanum:
'During a clash between his troops and a small Ork warband in the jungles that separated Armageddon Prime and Armageddon Secundus. Early in the combat, which the Blood Angels eventually won, Tycho was the victim of a deadly psychic attack by an Ork Weirdboy and was left for dead.'

It is Armageddon.
They were chasing boss Grakka's speed freaks along the River Chaeron. Then they were ambushed and he was attacked by a weirdboy.
Prototype X got it.
If you don't know the answer than why did you ask that question?
Also what was the answer to the amount of tanks the guard have? If there even was an answer.

That's it.
BA codex, P. 41 wrote:
The former sergeant swiftly proved his mettle, orchestrating the rout of boss Grakka's Speed Freaks, and recapturing key defensive postions along the river Chaeron. Enheartened by their success, the 3rd company pushed on, striking at the Ork supply lines from Armageddon prime.
It was on such a mission that Tycho and his company were ambushed. Though the blood angels triumphed, their Captain fell victim to an Ork weirdboy's psychic assault early in the battle.

Armageddon Prime is the western half of Armageddons main continent
What planet/moon did Captain tycho suffer a psychic attack?
Answer = Armageddon
Armageddon Prime is the western half of the main Armageddon continent, joined to Armageddon Secundus through the Equatorial Jungle. It has three large hive cities including Hive Tempestora, Hive Death Mire and Hive Volcanus, with the possibility of a fourth, long destroyed hive city in the Plains of Anthrand, which may possibly have been Hive Anthrand or Hive Blackfire.

Because they would be overpowered if they had long range. (Imagine a 48" range melta weapon. 2D6 penetration at 24" range) Also, fluff wise, because it is a heat ray and the heat would dissapate over long range.
