The new codex says that? Really? Where?

The army list.

Page number?

How about you guys start a separate thread for that particular discussion?

Anyway...

I hope the lack on any info about co-op campaign play doesn't mean we aren't getting any!

Been waiting forever for this game CAN'T WAIT!!!!

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."-Last words of Leman Russ the Primarch of the Space Wolves Chapter of Space Marines.

We are getting co-op. What, exactly, the co-op is has not yet been elaborated on. About three weeks until the game's released, they'll reveal it soon if they want to build up hype.

Right!

My concern is that it will just be the 'co-op' we've already been shown, or some slight variation thereof.

I'm hoping not though!

Speculation is that it is a co-op survival mode. One of the earlier E3 trailers showed a handful of uniquely equipped Marines bursting from a Drop Pod, wasting Orks. Also, in a different trailer, there was a Carnifex being blasted by a Warlord Titan. While it is possible for Tyranids to be present in the campaign (especially since the Orks in Kill-Team had some Tyranids on their ship and Kill-Team is the precursor to Space Marine) many believe that the Carnifex was only in the trailer as a hint towards Tyranids being present in a co-op survival mode.

Not really a discussion per se. I'm just after the page number. I'm also happy to have it PMed.

Anyway, until THQ actually let us know some useful info, we're all really just treading water here. I expect that the co-op will just be a bog-standard survival/horde mode, as seen in every second shooter that gets released these days. If they somehow manage(d) to make it something more substantial, I'll order a second copy for my wife to play alongside me. I've got to get my pre-order in sometime pretty soon as well, since I'm going for the extra MP skins - which I guess is less (read: not) important for my wife. - but I'd prefer to play the whole thing in co-op for the first playthrough if that's going to be an option.

So rumor is the game isn't going to have dedicated servers on the PC. Just cancelled my pre-order. Probably get it for my xbox now second hand as online play will be a wasted lag fest.

this is the decision that indeed might prove to be a fail for the game. Lag is killing DoW2 Retribution.

I can't imagine 8v8 matches with no dedicated servers, but then again, I never played MW2.

I hope this is true, but I believe they stated in an interview they stated that you played as one of the 'handful of uniquely equipped Marines' in the SP campaign, before they switched it out for a unique, individual Space Marine, and then ultimately Creating Captain Titus. The horde mode would be great for Co-op I feel, and I hope they add it in, even if it is an Ork horde mode instead.

Also, the apparent 'no dedicated servers' sounds like a bad move. I don't pretend to be an expert on these things, but judging from feedback I've heard from other games, the lag from P2P is usually what kills the game. I feel THQ have done a great job on this game so far, seeing it flop like other games such as Brink would be a shame

Lots of interesting stuff here. Thanks to all the contributions, really useful. Have Xbox folks decided how you are going to organise finding people to play with on multiplayer? Personally, i decided to join a guild/clan/Chapter/whatever so that i've always got someone to play with 24/7. We are recruiting right now actually. If anyone wants to be mainly loyalist Marines then come along, the more people, the easier it will be to find someone to play with 24/7.

Makes sense. I think the weapons used during the Great Crusade/Heresy were power maces, twin linked bolters, combi weapons, power fists and reaper autocannons.

Cool live streams of the demo... kind of zipped through them so as not to spoil it for myself. As a side note, I always pictured the chainsword (maybe due to the Cain novels) as something that is always on in battle as opposed to just revving when swung. The later definitely sounds more power efficient though. For the Emperor! and a greener Imperium!

I'm sure the Imperium is big enough for both kinds. After all, there's been so many different models on the figures over the past 20-odd years....

I'm hoping there's at least an option for split screen co-op. Most of my gaming is done at a friend's house, staring at a 1080p projection screen with a bunch of married dudes one night a week. We call it Nerdfest.

"Well, isn't the enemy of your enemy, like, your friend? Or whatever? Can't they team up?"
"Not exactly. In this setting, the enemy of your enemy is still a floating, greasy, armored brain."
"Well, what about his enemy? Maybe you could be friends with him."
"No, because that guy is a mechanical horror in an undying battle shell. He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope."

You obviously never played halo either, which has excellent p2p networking.

Can you get bad, laggy matches? Sure, especially if you're playing outside of your region's prime playing time (6pm-2am) as you'll get more international players who might get selected as host. Most console games (can't speak for PC games) that don't have dedicated servers do try and pick the best host for the group... there are ways of gaming the system (like getting a full team party in Gears of War 2 guarantees someone in your team is host) but it hasn't stopped me from playing 95% of the time because the rare problem is an exception rather than the rule.

Just stormed my way through the demo a couple of times. Boy, is that a good game so far. Simple and smashy, gore everywhere, weapons feel punchy and powerful, the jump pack is the most fun I had with a non gun piece of hardware since gravity gun in HL2. The pre-purchace was well worth it.

Damn, I was hoping Relic would pack the files in their usual format. This .oppc thing will have to be unraveled from scratch since no one bothered to mod Darksiders on the PC.

Most likely not, sorry.

Does anyone know how the Space Marine forum members get the demo early? Do they email you a code to use on the xbox marketplace? What time will it be out (GMT)?

The day early access is only for the PC demo, just like the week early access for steam preorderers. Sledgehammer (their forum master) said that they can't do a staggered release on xbox live/psn so no early access there.
