Scenery idea is sounding very cool, looking forward to seeing how that comes out.

Also really like the big beastie, he would make a great jugger.

Thanks Giraffe, perhaps unsurprisingly the black legion lords sword is already broken, whoever thought that the star made of thin lines of resin in the middle of the blade was a good idea needs a lesson in miniature design. So he'll be receiving a little bit of TLC before he meets the brush.

Got back to working my way through the painting queue, so I've finished off my Be'lakor, got him years ago before he had 40k rules to use as a nurgle prince, therefore he ended up covered in greenstuff and bits. Fortunately he was repairable and I had the foresight to hang on to the blade from the sword so he's been under repair most of this week.

Oh and I snapped as good a close up as I could manage of the little nurgling as requested, still not exactly a great shot since he is itty bitty to put it mildly!

Slowly applying black to the cloth on the daemonettes and word bearers, hate doing cloth, oh and building up a pool of bases for them, breaking up the tedium with fun things like Be'lakor though, so expect more like him to appear along the way.

I really like Be'lakor, I've been after a metal one of those for ages.

Nice base on that de-converted Be'la in particular

Aside: man, his wings continue to bother me to this day, with all those skulls, chains and hooks up in them

@ Giraffe - I've not seen one come up on ebay for a while but then I've not really been looking, always worth asking a seller that hasn't bothered to specify though as metal couldn't be easier to paint strip. Might as well nab one while he still has working rules that are rather famously good.

@ Salvage - Thanks, he does indeed convey a rather notable lack of stealth, 'what the hell is that noise sarge' *looks up*.

Finally received something from a kickstarter, only took em two years... so I've been assembling these and procrastinating with what the hell I'm growing this year, (tomatoes did very well last year must be something about the area). Most of them will end up as either traitors or 'counts as' for when I feel like playing with orders in my list, can't finish them till the rest comes through though.

The girls look nice, whats the casting like?

The eye of terror

Casting is excellent, resin is a little bit more brittle than what I'm used to so you have to be damned careful on anything that does need trimming.

First 'state of the crusade' shot is done, I'll try and get one done every quarter, should stop it being spammy and give me a bit more incentive to make sure things get painted!

Saying that things have been very busy, trying to get another job sorted as the contract work is drying up somewhat so a lot of spare time tends to turn into sending CV's!

Well it's been... a while?

Job search paid off, and I've been settling into the new role. Miniatures have somewhat fallen to the wayside lately, however I've spent the last couple of weekends dusting things off.

Everything is nicely lined up into groups of 'to be painted', or 'to be built', and I'm starting to feel a bit more motivated.

Finished off my word bearers helbrute and chosen, and started work on a couple of night lords heroes.

Hopefully I'll be cracking out at least a single update a week again, it's good to be painting again!

Brilliant update, that monk look is very appropriate for word bearers.
Happy to hear you were able to settle real life stuff in order to properly focus on setting the galaxy on fire.

Thanks for the welcome back!

I swapped over to Infinity for last weekends update, but it's been back to chaos this weekend.

Night lords are finished.

Not sure how happy I am with this one, could've done with taking a better photo of the axe, since it had a lovely little face to highlight. He's come out a little rougher than I'd like, so he's already on the list of 'to revisit'.

However my jump pack lord to go with the raptors I'm much happier with, can't wait to get him in a game, let's just hope he makes it to the tau lines intact...

Think I'll switch it up a bit from infantry with a vehicle next, working on a vindicator for the iron warriors section, tried not to go too 'spiky' with them.

Might get an update in midweek this week too, will see how it goes, but I've got a lazy Monday coming so you never know.

The jump pack lord is looking really nice. I've also noticed a very large number of Daemonettes in the back ground behind the Vindi, Slaanesh take over?

Daemonettes, no idea what you could possibly be talking about

They'll get done, eventually, maybe, some day...

Slight update since I'm posting anyway, never liked airbrushing metallics, always seems to cause clogs but it got there in the end! Now onto hazard striping, decals and detailing.

Beautiful work on the converted Chosen in terms of the conversion and painting, loving the Helbrute too.

And you cannot beat a Vindicator, the hazard stripes will look amazing.

@Thraxas - Hopefully the hazard stripes live up to the hype then!

Vindicator is now complete, spent a good chunk of Monday on it, as well as too much of Sunday night.

Clearly it's seen more than a few battlefields since the 30th millennium!

Really not sure what to do next, there's a huge pile of 40k still, but then those poor neglected Infinity models...

So much for a more regular set of updates, but at least stuff has been getting done (albeit not chaos stuff).

Started work on painting up a few champions who have been sat on the shelf feeling neglected, any excuse to get an oldschool claw powerfist into the army.

I've also started on an older metal chaos sorcerer, the only difficulty I'm having with this one is picking a paint scheme. I was leaning towards a word bearer just because of the overall feel of the model, already got black legion covered, but any ideas are totally welcome.

The eye of terror

Been rather naughty and bought more models again, but £50 for the whole AoS box how could I say no right?

Plus I felt I rather deserved a treat, long story short two weeks ago I was made redundant with only 48 hours between being told and finding myself on gardening leave. On the plus side it was 'nothing to do with me, it was a reflection of their poor planning'. However I find myself with a new job starting on Monday, for more money, and generally better conditions so a little celebration was in order.

Anyway enough about me

Conversions on the AoS set have already begun, there was a rather obvious helbrute conversion and he stands up perfectly scalewise with the one I already have:

I figured I might as well make something fun with the larger khornate chaps so I've done a unit of five chosen (two power swords, two power axes, one paired lightning claws). Tried making the fist weapons into a pseudo bolt pistol, and I'll find somewhere to strap a bolter on at some point. It's a shame they're pretty poor on the table, but if nothing else they should look pretty in the cabinet.

For the larger banner I thought the original model looked ridiculous even by GW standards, so I've clipped the banner and set it aside for something more appropriately scaled to an icon that size. Really liked the overall pose of the model though so didn't want to alter it too much and that axe is already pretty much a crozius so he's becoming a dark apostle.

Still not sure what to do with the rest of the khorne models, the lord seems like a potentially decent termie lord, don't know whether to add the hound or not though. As for the chunkier chap with the whip I think I'll somehow have to integrate him into the renegades force, no idea with the 20 regular fellas, potentially cultists or renegades again but they look pretty huge so ideas for what everyone else has done with them are totally welcome.

You know, that helbrute shoulder pad is a quick fix for the rather unsightly bone tentacle on Mr. Khorgorath. Consider it knicked

Commiserations on the job nonsense? Though here's to it all working out for the better

That Vindicator...wow. Probably the best Iron Warriors one I have ever seen...just stunning.

Great price on AOS as well, so much conversion potential as you have already proven. The Helbrute is so simple yet effective. Just be careful of his...earrings??? so delicate and easy to break off.

@ Salvage - Ty fella, always nice to see a plan is worthy of knicking!

@Thraxas - Thank you so much, I was a little disheartened when it got no real notice as I was really happy with it. Will take the ear-ring note to heart, hopefully khorne stuff should be amongst the first on the list for painting now.

@ Evildrcheese - Flattered as always hopefully I can deserve the sub by getting updating again

As usual 'job nonsense' and the settling in period struck me silent for a little while, (that and the general holiday period). Got some new kits over Christmas, but really trying not to get any more for a while! Everything is now sorted into shelves of 'similar or the same' paint scheme. Just finishing off modelling what I already have, in amongst general priming and clean-up. Full update to come once I've not been out and about all day.

In the meantime here's a little snap of one of the Xmas presents in progress!

@ Calibanite Lion - Thank you kindly sir, khornates are near the front of the painting queue so hopefully it shouldn't be too far off!

So a proper update is called for!

As mentioned everything is currently sorted into paint schemes on the shelves, in an attempt to make it seem less daunting!

However so far the assembled and awaiting paint for 2016 looks something like this working from shelf to shelf...

10 x Renegade mutants
1 x Renegade Leman Russ Eradicator
1x Renegade Chimera
1x Renegade Scout Sentinel
23 x General Renagade Infantry (mostly character or low count models)

Then unbuilt there's at least:
3 x Kataphrons

Edit:
How about a photo of Kastelan 2 thrown in so as to not make it entirely text!

@ Mymearan - Thank you kindly, I suspect I'll be sneaking several screaming guardsmen into the army before I'm done.

Was planning on getting started with some of the painting tonight, however upon moving stuff from the shelf onto the desk I realised I'd not actually finished all the khornate cultists so they've been the focus of the tonight.

More detailed shots will follow once they're not just bare plastics.

Yet again my plans have been foiled by a mix of moldlines and gap filling but they're now all ready for primer, just letting the greenstuff cure till tomorrow night!

Bit freaky having one of the shelves temporarily empty, the only thing I'm debating now is if I should move the bloodletters onto 32's rather than 25's once I get as far as basing, certainly going that way with anything marine sized.

So they all got primed, and I got as far as the first layer of red and a wash based pre-shade when disaster struck.

Despite only thinning with alcohol the wash went powdery white in a good few recesses, honestly I packed it in and played video games instead for a little while in a bit of a huff

Not sure if my wash is tainted somehow but I stopped short of finishing them all until my new black wash arrives. Although all that's left to do now is 9 blood letters as the problem wasn't apparent till I was most of the way through... Trying out an army painter one this time and just got the dispatch email today so fingers crossed it won't be far off.

In an attempt to retrieve what I'd started I've gone up to the first highlight, and fortunately it seems to mostly have reversed any problems, just a few bright spot highlights to go and then the rest of the red will be brushwork and final shading.

Might do flesh next, can't decide if I want to go for pale or somewhere verging on normal to represent some khornate vigour!

Commiserations on the bad prime, that nonsense has grounded too many of my own projects over the years. All the same the red looks solid at this stage - and also nice to see a glimpse into your airbrush red process, as I'm about to do similar with some Malifaux dudes
