I am not so keen on those cars, I think they are a bit flimsy looking and I think mine will look better. I've got about 20 1:48 cars here, taken the windscreens out and soon I'll take them out in the back yard with a sledgehammer to 'weather' them. It won't make a lot of sense but I want them to be rusted through, maybe they got caught in an acid rain storm or similar treacherous condition.
I was using the matt medium to thin my paint, not sure what happened but I'll just be more careful in the future.

This is Lugo, changed slightly since I last posted his WIP pic. He's a mining servitor fresh from the quarry. (If you are following the Spartacus TV show analogy, Lugo was one of the Germans freed on the ship by Agron who wanted to free his own people. In my version Germans = mining servitors).

I've finally redone my Elita model - the pit slave techno. The original Elita is all the way back on the first page. She's a really useful character now, with a brand new plasma gun, smoke grenades and BS 5. She can also use archeotech to move between levels. Her smoke bombs have already proven very useful - my favourite tactic is to throw them directly on top of the enemy and when the gangers stumble out they get charged by my chainsaw limbed monstrosities.
Much happier with this model, it took me a few goes to find the right base model, there are so few decent female figures out there. She is holding the head of a ruined pit slave in one hand, she can always rebuild them.

Sounds interesting. I did consider making a pitfighting arena for my Necro board but decided I would rather have more general purpose looking parts. I can always fashion an arena by arranging bits together. That last giant building I made would work as the stands I think.
Pitslaves are great fun to make, especially when you find an unusual looking weapon and figure out how to graft it to a human torso. I have a couple of new ones I will show shortly.

This is Barca. The mallet he wields is hewn from a block of solid marble, taken from the ruins of the coliseum of Dome-1. Once it was claimed that all roads led to Dome-1 and the coliseum was the grandest pit fighting arena in all of the Underhive, until the hive quake that collapsed the dome and turned the area into a labyrinth of half buried structures populated by a few savage survivors. As a boy, Barca survived in that maze for months before finding his way out. His feral nature earned him the nickname 'The Beast' and he was sold to the pits. Hotdamn! Your newest gang just keeps getting better and better! I love Lugo, although I've not been watching season 2... he looks fantastic- and very Marvel-Juggernaut.
Also your mechanic-the conversion is top-notch... reminds me of Baiyuan or PDH's work. No joke. Really, really good work.
And a small chuckle for Barca... the mini looks fantastic- love the helmet. The Spartacus character, however, was the only one I had to step out of the room for when it came to the man-on-man action... yikes.

I wasn't actually after a gloss coat, if this is about the liquitex matt medium problem I had, I was using the medium to thin my paints - I think the problem was that I added too much water. I see now on the bottle it says you can add up to 25% water, maybe I added too much. Anyway it made my paint turn into rubber and peel off so lesson learned, I am more careful with it now. But I am interested in sealing weathering powders - I just bought some windscreen wash for this purpose as I have heard that they contain Isopropyl alcohol and that seals the powders. I will try it and if it fails I will try the Klear stuff you suggest. I am not normally so bothered about sealing powders as they tend to be ok as long as you don't handle them excessively, but some of my new bits are covered to such an extent that your hands get dirty after picking them up.
although I've not been watching season 2... he looks fantastic- and very Marvel-Juggernaut.
First up, you ought to watch the rest of the show! Best thing on TV, and sure you have to be a bit tongue in cheek with statements like that, but for my money it's more consistently entertaining than say, Game of Thrones. (I wrote a bit about why I love Spartacus over here). Secondly, yeah he is totally inspired by Juggernaut, I am a comic geek as well.
More new stuff!
This is 'Dangerous' Dan McGurk, a scummer of some ill repute. McGurk can frequently be found propping up the bar at one of the sleazier bars or drinking holes in the seediest parts of the Underhive. He's a well known braggart, and if you ply him with enough wildsnake he'll tell you of his time spent as a battle brother of the Adeptus Astartes (until he got kicked out for being a loose cannon), or when he single-handedly wrestled an Ork warboss to submission and became de facto leader of his very own waaagh (which he eventually had to leave due to being too much of a loose cannon). McGurk is a big man whose once impressive frame is slowly turning soft in his old age, but he can still handle himself in a tight corner and he is as quick as ever with his twin bolt pistols.
He's just about my favourite model, really pleased with how the stains came out on his t-shirt and jeans.

Bit of a long shot, but if anyone has any of the second edition Van Saar models lying around (the ones with separate heads) I am after a few. Well just the heads really. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just saw this over on another site: a Spartacus board game with licensed miniatures, and it's 'just the start' of a range of Spartacus products. Interesting!
It looks like the minis might be a bit small for my purposes (chainsaw limb grafts), but we'll see. Full news over here: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2012/07/news-galeforce9-goes-spartacus.html

I don't think you'll have much luck with the van saar heads. A set of those gangers is worth more than 50 bucks, they are highly sought after on ebay. So whoever has a set of them will either love them or the money they represent too much to give away the heads. I've been keeping an eye open for those miniatures for a while...

Ah right, I thought they were the ones for sale on the GW site still. They give you a mix of models and I assumed they would include the new ones. It's strange how no photos really exist of these models, this is the only one I can find:
Well I intend to sculpt my own beardy heads anyway, see how that goes. Any 3rd party bits manufacturers out there, there is a gap in the market - heads with neatly trimmed beards!

Yeah, unfortunately they don't sell these anymore. Sad sad thing, most of the miniatures from that era, when fanatic was a seperate department seized to be available after its decline. The ash waste nomads, the new bounty hunters etc. and of course it's not just the necro range, inq got hit too.

As I understand it the new Van Saars were part of a plan to make new multipart models for each gang - they did Ratskins, Redemptionists, Goliaths and Orlocks then 4 Van Saars and that was the end of it. It's odd that they sell the other new gangs but not these Van Saar figures. Sad indeed.

Yeah my bad. The newer style scavvies I completely missed - I had no idea they existed. All of these guys came out after I had quit the hobby I think.
Had a couple of games tonight, just using my Goliaths while I wait for another gang to level up enough to play my Pitslaves. Scavvies kicked my arse quite comprehensively (lots of feedback heading your way PDH).
Will be doing the next scenery push soon which will bring the board up to 6x4. The aim will be to have two simultaneous games on the one board, with a 1ft wide zone in the middle in which both games can exist. Not enough room for a bigger board!
